Default 991 GTS Rennport Edition or 991 GT3

Well finally decided to get back into the Porsche world after selling my beautiful 997 GTS aero cup package car a couple years back.

I was able to get a GTS Rennsport Edition from my dealer.

Putting a deposit down tomorrow.

Torn though because I always wanted a GT3 and was getting ready to buy a GT3 when I got the call on a Rennsport Edition GTS.

Which one should I buy????

Help!!!!

That's simple, GT3, if you can find one.

Actually its not that simple, without some more context all you will get are really subjective opinions like mine.

Must you have 7MT, or usable back seats, will you ever track the car, the list is endless and the right answer is very much dependent upon your needs and wants?

Here's the answer (from a management consultant): it depends.

You'll see many people chiming in with the same theme. If you're intending to drive the car on the street - either only or primarily - and want something that's comfortable, versatile and dynamically capable, the GTS is the tool.

If you want a more track-oriented tool that you can still use on the street, get a GT3.

The 991 generation GT3 is much more "livable" on the street than the 997 generation.

And, having said all of that, if you like the spec of the Rennsport Edition GTS, then it'll be WAY more rare than a GT3. Plus Fashion Grey is cool, IMO.

Any model, whether it's a Rennsport Edition or a 911/50 etc and was specifically created by the producer to be a collectable will never really be collectible. Intentionally made Honus Wagner baseball card type items will always be viewed with disdain by savvy collectors. Look at the 40th anniversary 911 model...no big deal today ,or ever , as it was a contrived collectable. If a 911 model becomes rare due to its being a rarely purchased type which has other desirable qualities it will ultimately increase in value due to its honesty.
So, in this comparison the GT3 appears to have those types of inherent characteristics, not the Rennsport Edition. If , however, the Rennsport Edtion better fulfills your driving aims buy it for that aspect alone, not its collectibillity.

Imagine you've chosen one, paid for it, and are driving it. You then take a moment to think about the other one. How does this moment feel?

Thanks for the replies. A lot of good advice.

GT3 for me.

Anyone want to buy one of the nicest aluminum bodied continuation Shelby 427 Cobras in the world? Owned her 15 years.

Can I post her for sale on the forum or only Porsches?

Well! Lets talk about the GT3. Imagine having found the most beautiful girl in the world. Everything is great until you start living with her. You find out she is bipolar. The doctors are trying to hold her together using meds. For now it's all right until you find out the medical insurance will be running out soon. When your in bed with her she is fantastic and like no other. Hold on though. it's a bumpy ride because in the back of your mind you know the bomb could go off at any second. If you don't mind that type of woman. Than go for it!

Funny....I try to explain my GTS as thus, when talking to men... Like being married to a supermodel who has her PHD and comes from a great family. Still deal with the same issues any married man does--but she's a supermodel. With her PHD. And from great stock.

Alternatively, I'll explain its the only way I've found that I can use my driver's license, motorcycle license, and pilot's license all at the same time

first decide your requirements, then decide which one.
For me, already having a race car, I went for a very rare PTS 991S. Could not be happier :-)

I thought they were only going to make a handful of the Rennsport editions I would think it should be more collectible than the 1900 or so 911 50s.

When I was shopping I came to the conclusion that the GTS was basically a wide body C2S with some extra bling. The GT3 is just a different animal entirely IMO. Probably a little harder to live with and fly under the radar day to day, but still I think most Porsche people would find it the much more desirable car.
