Default MA1 -> MA2

Hello Larry Cable,
The engine in the 991 Gen 1 is from the MA1 (not 9A1) family of engines, introduced in 2009 with the 997 Gen 2. The MA1 engine is currently used in everything from the 2.7 l Boxster and Cayman up through the 911 GT3 RS.

With that said, the MA2 engine found in the 991-II features numerous changes above and beyond the turbochargers. First and foremost the crankcase has been redesigned, and the new casting is 1.5 kg lighter than the MA1. It utilizes a new integrated dry sump assembly that is 2 kg lighter. It has a revised variable displacement oil pump which is 1.2 kg lighter. The cylinder liners are now iron coated. The cylinder heads are redesigned as well: the DFI injectors are now centrally positioned next to the spark plugs, cross-flow cooling is improved, and the engine features variable exhaust camshaft timing control in addition to intake camshaft timing and lift control. Fuel pressure is also boosted on this new engine, using two roller tappet-driven DFI pumps (a-la 918 Spyder, GT3) with up to 250 bar fuel pressure. There's also a new switchable water pump to speed warmup while providing higher overall throughput at full load. It's lower weight, too.

Hope you find this info interesting.

thanks I was convinced that it was the 9A1... you learn something new ... regardless of the model, I doubt they will continue to build a N.A version
beyond that required by the GT cars...

Porsche has said multiple times that they will keep the GT cars aspirated.
However they were referring to the true GT cars, GT3, GT3RS, and GT4.

GTS models are great all in one cars, but they are not considered GT cars by Porsche, and future GTS models of the 911, Boxster, and Cayman will all be turbo.
