No. There is a rubber gasket between the plate and frame. Have one on my daily driver SUV and nothing, even through Wisconsin winters! It seals up tight. Have used these frames for years.

Believe it or not it is illegal in WA State to cover your plate w/anything.

WA State Law:

It is unlawful to use any holders, frames, or any materials that in any manner change, alter, or make the vehicle license number plates illegible. (RCW 46.16A.200) Tinted and non-tinted covers can alter the appearance of or the reflectivity of the plate and make it unreadable or reduce the reflectivity.

I'm going to start with a cheap naked frame and paint it myself and see how it goes. If it works well I may paint the black plastic mount too..

I would have to get so many tickets before I would ever put a front plate on my car.

Yeah I saw that they offered a plastic primer and was planning to go that route. I agree about the mirror bottoms, did you paint those on the car or remove them?
I painted them on the car. Masked almost the entire car to ensure no overspray.

Wouldn't it be easier to just remove the frame from the car and paint it?
