with the 100+ billion dollar VWAG emissions issue of the past couple weeks, I would be very leery of showing up during warranty period with catless exhaust system ...and that aside, these engines are unproven ...who wants to be the first 100 test cases of what an aftermarket de-catted exhaust could do to the engine upstream and be blamed for an engine issue ultimately not even related ...and good luck proving otherwise with your $$$$$ lawyers and independent engineers !
plus, the " Turbo " has sounded awful de-catted these past couple decades , so that may be the outcome here, since they prob spent many many hours trying to tune these motors via scores of exhaust can volume and baffling prototypes to not sound like a vacuum cleaner on one end of the spectrum to a rumbling diesel dump truck on the other !
Meh. Saw it in person at Rennsport Reunion and my feeling was that the style was busy for the sake of being busy. On a .2 update the designers have limited latitude due to costs. Instead of refining the design they just added to the existing design with gimmicks. It will look cool to those who always need the next best thing but a true aficionado won't be running out to trade in their 991.1 to get improved looks.
My thoughts exactly. Waiting for the total redesign / next gen
at the intro, the developers said the vertical slat grill was mandated by the requirement to " waterfall " ( my word) cooling air down at its trailing edge , then route it through the two turbo intercoolers which are located near those two air outlets in the lateral bumper , since these cars dont have the side scoops that perform that function in the " Turbo " , but I suspect the latter will go " vertical " too just for the sake of it being a key 991.2 identifier , for good or bad
If vertical was necessary for cooling, why the black color? I think some kind of body color design would have been better. Seems like it clashes with some of the lighter colored cars.
Painted body color would be worse. That design would stick out like a sore thumb. There's a reason why it's black, trust me. Would look like a pitchfork on the rear deck.

Been saying this all along. The styling 'updates' just look like change for change sake, rather than anything that actually improves the look of the car. It's not horrible simply because it would take more than this to really mess up the iconic beauty of the 911, but it's certainly not an improvement. It's sad because I really thought Porsche nailed it with the 991 in terms of getting back to a cleaner, sleeker design of the car.
I'm a believer that these exhaust systems are designed for optimal performance and back pressure. Even with cats. Screw with them, you're sacrificing something. Especially with turbos.
The in person reviews of the 991.2's don't sound too encouraging. No surprise. After all, no way they would ever sound like the 991.1 NA. We knew that. Can't expect that either.

the base car w/o PSE was almost completely silent accelerating out of T4 at LS ... the S was a little better w/PSE ... which I suspect probably provided most if not all of the audible difference... not a commanding sound compared to just about every other car on track...
