you can see the three flimsy " plasticky " hinges ( I felt them ) in the center of each strake for closing them at speed like venetian blinds ....I bet a tiny pebble lodged in one of those hinges could jam the whole contraption or burn out the motor

doctored/stanced press pics looked a whole lot better, to my eye at least
like the 991.1, an all blown up, bloated limo of a 911 - detailed changes hardly matter

Meh. Saw it in person at Rennsport Reunion and my feeling was that the style was busy for the sake of being busy. On a .2 update the designers have limited latitude due to costs. Instead of refining the design they just added to the existing design with gimmicks. It will look cool to those who always need the next best thing but a true aficionado won't be running out to trade in their 991.1 to get improved looks.

Ugh, as much as I want to like the changes...none of them really work for me. Not even the taillights or the DRLs and especially the vertical black slats. The 991.1 is just such a clean, perfect design. These make it so much busier...
Oh, I would love to have more power/torque and the upgraded telematics...but I am certainly not feeling these styling tweaks...

the bigger grills in the back is probably to let the turbo cool. maybe the original design makes the temps too hot and they had to open the compartment for more airflow. the vents look like they will push the air better through the compartment than the 991.1 does.

This is the reasoning I heard for the vertical slats. As functional as they may be, they're really really ugly and if I was an after market parts producer I would be designing an alternate grill immediately.

That rear exhaust that was taken right from the VW R32 is awful

Like I said in another thread the 991.2 TT and TTS wear the changes better.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
The 991.1 was definitely not broken and was one of their most beautiful designs since the 993.
This back-end is now a complete cluster with far too much going on and with too many angles.
And the front-end is straying dangerously into plastic territory.

I have been a vocal critic here of the changes in the front and the back from pictures for a while , but I will say, none of these " faults " looks as bad up close and in person .. the overwhelming impression to me is that it " just looks like any 'ol 991 " ...even the majority of the throng that walked by these orange and silver cars parked side by side wide open in a walk through area , ambled right passed them without even a first glance !
I would be much more concerned as a new car 911 buyer the next few years about how these models sound.....esp for those who are pushing their personal price limit to buy one , as that orange base car here at RRV ( without PSE ) sounded essentially silent even at WOT as it accelerated just a few feet in front of us out of turn 3 .
By comparison , the current base model NA non-PSE 991.1 sounds , to many ears , better at WOT than the NA non-PSE 991.1 " S ", esp from behond the steering wheel which is what really matters regarding sound ...as we are the drivers, not the passersby !

With respect to the exhaust, I think there's going to be a catless aftermarket boom, so we'll have something to talk about and dig into together . The end is not nigh, these are merely engineering problems that require new solutions. Yes - that 1993 bottle of wine you remember was fantastic, but there are new vintages to try and experience- that's the joy of life...
