What about the Targa GTS? Is that 2 or AWD?

The awd is not really intended for winter or snow driving in the 911. It's purpose is mainly for better handling so being in Florida should have no bearing on either 2S or 4S. The Targa is the absolute best looking 911 hands down. So since for whatever reason Porsche only chose to make it in the 4S body I don't know, it may have something to do with the extra added weight over the rear end possibly who knows. But with the all new 991.2 being all turbo next year and a lot more torque especially down low in the rev band, maybe they will offer the Targa next year in the 2S. Personally though I would get this GTS just for the fact it's the last of the NA engines and still has more than enough power. The awd will only make you a better driver on top of that! Florida has more rain than most places in the country as well so yes the awd for me would actually be preferred if I still lived in Florida as I am from there also! Good luck with your search.

I hope that you are stating just your opinion. I live in Florida and I love my AWD on those days with heavy Florida rain like monsoons. Considering how shallow the tire tread depts. are, I can feel the "sure footageness" of my C4S when I'm on the highways on rainy days.

My theory for the AWD on Targas is that a lot of the weight is on the back tires so the AWD helps with too much oversteer and evens out the weight distribution

It's the best looking 911 variant in my opinion. Just don't think I could take the weight penalty. Again speaking only for me, I don't need AWD in FL. I've been driving powerful RWDs for years here. In place of AWD, I slow down when it rains hard

Porsche markets the Targa as "safe" alternative open air car. Hence the roll bar and the 4WD system. So, unless they will change their marketing strategy, we will only see a 4WD Targa for now.

The huge benefit for the new turbos motors and especially for the Targa since it does weigh a little more is the huge amount of torque difference the new motors will put to the ground low in the rev band as compared to the current engine. I think the on the 2S models that rear end is definitely going to be a little more tail happy if too much throttle is applied to quick. So this is going to be a huge huge benefit for the 4S models especially now for all the extra torque the new engines will be putting down. So I can see the handling being somewhat significantly better in the 4S models going forward. With that being said if Porsche does decide to do a Targa 2S now because the added power is much better it will also be my guess that the Targa 2S will handle that added extra torque because of all the added extra weight that just happens to be over the rear wheels which will help compensate and keep the rear end planted better than the coupe 2S, just my thoughts anyway.
