Honestly, this is one of the many reasons why I decided to wait for the 991.2 as my first Porsche. The first test drive I ever took, I was given a car with the multifunction steering wheel. Needless to say, I kept downshifting instead of upshifting and vice versa.... Thankfully, the salesman did not go on the drive with me.... It was embarrassing enough on my own.... Anyways, I thought it was odd that I would have to pause and think whether I had to push or pull the lever on a $100k+ car instead of just "connecting" with the car and drive...
Now, I am finally in the position to place my order for a .2 and I can't wait for the order books to open....

smaller diameter and or thicker wheels whether factory or aftermarket are " sportier " in the hand and while staring at it in your garage but they actually diminish road feel slightly vs the larger diameter , thinner spoked OEM wheel. That is what many say and that has been my experience in 100% of the many cars I've done that in since 1975 , incl many classic Momos and several very rare Porsche optional sport wheels still in near perfect orig condition mounted in my trophy case . I have as recent as the 996 and 997 installed really nice aftermarket DCTMS smaller , thicker versions of the stock steering wheels with same outcome .

Sportier look vs reduced road feel , which is already lessened as it is with the 991's electric non -hydraulic steering rack vs prev generation 911s .....something to think about .

BASTARDS!

at least we have paddle shifters (to replace those stupid buttons) so we dont have to use the PDK at all ... but its "annoying" none the less.
Im w/ you Larry, the PDK toggles and Lever are moronic.

Hi- I've been considering a TTS but not sure if I should wait. I am indifferent to the new body styles of the 991.2 but I did want the new steering wheel. I know the turbos and the GTS are the last to get updated but does that include everything including the steering wheel?

Default GT Sport Steering Wheel on 991.2

The 991.2 "real turbo" should look better than the current one. In that case, will be an improvement. I think they learned from some of their mistakes on that one. The spy shots I've seen look promising. I'd wait a year or so until it comes out.

No new steering wheel on that one until the 991.2 comes out.

Alway wished my steering wheel had thicker padding. Really like the feel of the BMW M steering wheels.

Personally I prefer a larger wheel with a smaller rim, for better feel. I see the smaller one comes with the sports pack so I'd hope they allow that particular item in that package to be "down-graded".

This video shows the new GT Sport steering wheel, and some engine sound variations:

What "mistakes" are you referring to?
I was contemplating trying to get a deal on a '15 sitting on a dealer lot. Seems unfair to have those willing to fork over $200k to drive around with the old steering wheel while the base Carrera has the "latest and greatest".

At 1:09 of the above video, he talks about the additional "Sport Response Button" (SRB). This button seems to set PDK at a lower gear and modulate throttle response for a quick acceleration. I think it will be like a mini-launch control which can be used while the car is moving. it will be fun to use.

According to Car Magazine:

"a Sports Response Button on the PDK will prepare the transmission for an extended 20sec burst of extra acceleration before overtaking; razor-fast throttle response and the lowest, punchiest gear are pre-selected."

This to me is the best advance w/ the 991.2 wheel

And on the change to the more intuitive direction of the PDK's function, big thumbs up.
