Aluminum Look Gas Cap Install??
I've read the few threads on installing this, but cannot seem to find a satisfactory answer. And I know $160 for an "aluminum-look" plastic part may be crazy, but I really like the look and heft, so please don't criticize this decision..allow a man his vices!
So my main question is how the heck do I remove the current tether from the pin so I can attach the new one. Has anyone done this at home successfully? I read some folks taking a hammer or mallet to it but I'm not about to do that..
Currently I have it on but not tethered yet:

The plastic cap is tethered to the plastic **** that is circled. The tether is looped onto the ****. To remove the tether, you need a hooked pick to grab the loop and pull over the ****. Not much space there, but with some patience it can be done. Good luck. BTW - mine looks great and filling up is now kinda fun

Only thing I don't like is the Alumi-look one doesn't have the center pin to hold it when fueling. You guys just let if hang there?
I had ordered one and sent it back because of that.

Thanks guys. Will have to try to pull the loop over to more then. Maybe it just looks that way but I swore the tether loop was attached as a solid piece to the rivet thingie.
And pin here as well..
