But it will improve performance and low end torque and most likely lead to faster 1/4 mile times. I am adding carbon fiber to my consul and dash and should get .000001 improvement in 0-60 times.

People are intrigued by hidden gems. Isn't that why underwear was invented?

Lol. Let me clarify. $155 -an absolute joke for what you're getting, just not bad compared to other prices for the same silly "aluminum look" trinket.

Btw, rennline has some awesome t shirts for "only" $30. Very soft, fit great and slim-ish. Wait, $30!?!

The Porsche gas cap has a low rent feel whatever the caps looks like. Sorry, had an E36 M3 for 17 years with a much more quality feel when closing the gas cap. To each his own.

I apologize in advance if this is duplicating somebody, but I cannot read 4 pages on this gas cap. There can be only one valid reason for this $160 option: It must be made of lighter weight plastic, and of course it's easier to see at night, only because both things contribute to faster refueling pit-stops. Remember, Porsche put the ignition key to the left of the steering wheel to make it possible to get away from the Le Mans start faster. What I cannot figure out is how the Brits, Aussies, Kiwis, Japanese, et al convinced the Germans to put the gas filler flap/cap/pipe on their damn side of the car. That alone must save more time than the light and bright aluminum look gas cap. I think it is only fair to require all right-hand drive cars to have an additional combination lock in the cap itself. That'll fix em.

Uh, these exact points have already been made at least 3 times on each page you didn't read.

I suspected as much, but I just could not bear to go through all of them. My sincere apologies. And I actually have one of the damn things, so every time I fill up I am reminded of what a sucker for Porsche fake bling I have become. Maybe somebody will steal it and put me out of my misery, except that the black plastic replacement might cost even more.

I broke down and ordered one today.

Couldn't find the leather cap with deviating stitching, so this'll have to do.

Easy..use a nail or pick and just pull and stretch the old OEM cap tether over the pin. Then reverse the process for the new cap. Takes about 2 mins. Mine has a pin also.

PS..there used to be a similar one made of billet aluminum and real heavy weight material. Had one for my 997.2 and it was much better than this. Not plastic actual metal but don't think they make one for the 991. But curious if it would fit properly as I can't imagine many changes to the fuel delivery system between the two cars. May have to try it again since my dumb self left it on my 997 when I traded it in! ;(

This one here IS the real deal. Not plastic. See 997 post regarding it.

It is a nice cap, but it will give off an engine light because it does not have the center neck that is on the 991 caps - that is what they told me when I asked them about a year ago. They may have changed the design since then though.

I did laugh at that, but the only reason they don't offer one is that they haven't thought of it yet. Just wait...they'll price it at $800, or more.

Obviously, $160 is way too much for any kind of plastic gas cap, but I don't look at it that way. This is one of those odd items that is just going to make you happy every time you see it...and that has to be worth something, no? I think Porsche's pricing of almost everything boarders on idiotic, but this item...well, if it soothes your soul and brings you joy, go for it!

Exactly. A friend of mine ordered illuminated rocker panels when he bought his Cayman. When I chided him about the obscene pricing on parts you will only see for 10 seconds every day he smiled and agreed, but, he said, "For those 10 seconds I am a very, very happy man."

Who am I to argue with that.
