991 oil pressure ?
I own a 2006 997 coupe and am considering a new 991 within the year as a retirement present to myself . I wanted to ask about the new variable oil pressure pump on the 991 which has lower pressure under low engine load and higher pressure under high demand situations as a fuel saving addition. I am sure that there will be no discernable difference but over lets say 200-250 K miles would the old constant pressure oil pump on my 997 offer better engine protection with slightly higher fuel use ?
I know that I am really splitting hairs here but I am interested in knowing an answer ! Thank you and Happy Holiday weekend !!

If you buy a new 991 with your average mileage of 2.9k per yr the new car will last you until your 148.5 yrs old.
Id' buy used and save yourself 30k. As far as the oil goes, haven't a clue mate !
Happy retirement Russ !

Russ-I bought a 2013 C4 Cab with 14K miles from Auto Palace in May and traded my '06 C4S cab in the deal. Super nice folks. I dealt with Ryan, who technically is not a salesman but is terrific and with Aaron, the GM, who is a very good guy. Was impressed by this dealership and thought I had been treated very fairly. Although I live four driving hours from Pittsburgh, I would happily buy from this store again.

Thank you Mumbles !
I hope to do more driving w my wife once I retire hopefully some cross Country trips and in Canada , We have family that live right across from Victoria in Squim Washington.
That's the primary reason that I am considering a 991 . My car is perfect and runs better than new but at 62 w/ the sport seats get a little uncomfortable on long road trips. I am not ready to go w a Pan yet I would like to own one more sports car and I will keep it until 148 if I live that long !!
I know my question is really majoring in minors but it crossed my mind and I wondered if anyone had any idea
Thank you for the retirement wish !!
Regards !

Thank you Chuchkla !
I am going to definitely purchase a Certified pre owned car like you !
I bought my 06 in 2009 w 8K miles on it from Sun Porsche in Harrisburg PA very nice folks also
I hope that when the new turbo 991.2's come out the existing 991 prices will drop a bit further so I am thinking about looking in the late Fall for a low mileage 991 coupe in Silver or blue
I am really struggling with the trans choice PDK or 7 speed manual all of my cars since 1970 ( MGB ) have been sticks !
Best Regards ! Russ

The 997 was not "constant pressure". It was a mechanically driven oil pump. Higher rpm = higher pressure. The 991 is electronic oil pump(s). So yes, less parasitic draw on the motor = better economy. But being able to up the pressure when demand needs it should be better protection for the motor. More oil pressure under higher loads (or when it is needed) is better protection. With mechanical pumps, you only get more pressure with more rpm. With electric pumps, you can provide the extra pressure when you need it, not only when you can make it. I suspect that means the 991 motor will outlast the 997 motor.
