Ruminations on new 991.2 Configurator
Knowing that the NA GTS may go the way of the dodo bird, I took the plunge and ordered a 2016 GTS cabriolet with PDK to my specifications a couple of weeks ago. It looks like my timing was spot-on as the GTS is no longer available on the configurator. I assume when it returns, it will be with a turbo-charged engine, similar to the Carrera and Carrera-S.
Just for kicks, I configured a 991.2 Carrera-S that is as close to my GTS order as possible. I have attached the two build-outs in PDF format if you are interested in comparing the appearance and the specifications side-by-side. Interestingly, the Carrera-S is slightly more expensive. It comes in at $152,305. The GTS came in at $151,180 (I got 5% off this MSRP). The GTS has more going for it than the nearly-comparable Carerra-S, not the least of which is the NA engine (in my opinion, anyway), and the superior looking black horizontal grill (rather than the new vertical grill). I'll sacrifice a new and improved PCM for the NA engine and the overall badass GTS look any day. Interestingly, the clear tail lights are not available as an option (I for one think they look cool and ordered them for my agate grey build-out) and the PDK is over a thousand dollars less on the new models. Even with the "rebate" on the 991.2 PDK, my 991.1 GTS is the cheaper option. Go figure.
I am sure the new cars will be awesome, but I am going to hold on to my NA GTS for years to come.

I noticed a few interesting price changes on the 2016 configurator. For example, among the color choices GT Silver is now "only" $710. More significantly, Porsche clearly is encouraging prospective 991 owners to opt for the PDK tranny with a $1000 reduction in price. I also noticed the cost of the Sport steering wheel increased $100 (or so). Not sure why, since it appears on the configurator as the "default" steering wheel.

Three Wheelin'
There are two types of steering wheels - the standard wheel and the GT Sport wheel which looks similar but is smaller and thicker. Both of the wheels can be optioned with multi-function controls + heating. So there are four steering wheel variations in total.

I'm in the same boat but my build out comes out LESS with the new one due to my GTS spec of GT Silver and the GTS interior and ducktail. It caused me to pause since I originally wanted Garnet /black in my GTS but can't get it anymore ( Porsche ran out of red cows?) . I'm a little pissed that GT silver on the new one is 700 bucks but at the end of the day I'm sticking with my GTS. I want my NA, duck and I think it will be a special car now and even more so 5 years on.

I'm the same, however for me a like for like comparison, however close, does not over come the beauty of a wide bodied 911. Unfortunately or fortunately! these new models posses the slimmer bodies. I'm therefore thankful Porsche did not release those at this time as that would indeed have caused a dilema.
