Default PDK Transmission Failure

2013 991S
17k miles
Bought CPO used w/16.4k mi. from local Porsche Dealer

Running errands in town today.....was in Sport mode.....using PDK.

Parked the car, went into coffee store, came back to car, maybe 10min. all in.

Start car, put it into reverse/drive, i forget, and nothing.....Transmission fault, no reverse gear, no forward gear.....flashing 2 on the gear indicator.....wouldn't move.

Tried starting/shutting off/starting, nothing. AAA flatbed tow to the dealership.

Same car has had a seat memory module replacement, steering angle sensor replacement, PCM issue, and now this bullsht.

Yes, I've read the other threads.....thought it would highlight the problem for Porsche to see by adding yet another one (mods, feel free to merge if you deem it worthwhile).

thanks for the reply.

my confidence in this car is not all that high, in fact, i wouldn't mind selling it right back to them. given all that's gone wrong in a matter of months, what could be next?

Let's see what the issue is I guess. Overall, the 991 has been fairly reliable. Regardless, not a very encouraging purchase having all those things happen already. Good luck.

Sounds like you have an electrical gremlin somewhere, possibly a loose ground wire. We had similar problems with a Cadillac a few years back. Turned out to have been a loose ground wire in the door. Once fixed, problems stopped. It sounds suspicious to me that it all started with the seat memory module.

Some cars are just troubled children.

I wouldn't get too excited just yet. See what the dealer says next week. You have a warranty. You're covered. Until then, don't jump to conclusions ...

FWIW - My first P-car (Cayman S) had a lot of issues. Started with PCM replaced 3 times, both cat backs replaced, clutch slave replaced and others I can't remember. The dealership was nervous to see me so often. I kept the car and it was fine. I did, however, get rid of it when it came off warranty.

I'll buy this....and the more i think about it, the more it makes sense to me. Between the seat memory module fiasco and this transmission fault/failure, both the PCM went fubar and required a "handover" at the dealer AND my steering angle sensor needed replacing. I do remember the service advisor saying something about them finding something odd with the wiring when replacing the seat memory module.

Having said that, and not truly needing an explanation, how easy is it to track down an "electrical gremlin" that doesn't seem to show up on their diagnostic devices? Regardless, it's this very thing that has me weary; today it's the transmission, what could the problem be tomorrow? By the way, the seal around a certain section of my windshield is deteriorating/melting (i started a thread on that, let's keep this one focused on the PDK failure). My point being, this is literally something like the 5th time i've visited the dealership in less than a couple of months and it's getting tiresome.

CPO...16k+ miles.....hmmm

Get rid of the car. The car has a history of problems and now left you stranded. It doesn't matter that the car is under warranty. You're the one living with the car not us on this forum. I'm sure you have better things to do with your time than taking a car into service, getting loaners, worrying if the problem is fixed, worrying about potential issues, etc. There are many nice Porsches out there. You don't have to put up with this one. Where do you draw the line? One more problem .. two? Sell the car.

^ like.

What I'm leaning towards, of course, the monetary loss is not something that I wanted to realize this early on. My thought is to sell it back to the dealer (hopefully at a respectable price) and start over. I've purchased many cars from them as have my work colleagues, maybe they'll recognize that.
