Anyone else disgusted by Porsche?
#91
That's the part I am commenting on. It sounds like the dealership (or maybe a salesperson) has been stringing the customer along for a long time. That is what I take point at.
I've never dealt with anyone at Rector (so have no personal experience to add here), but it would make me think twice.

I don't think you can say they've been stringing him along when they literally don't have any information to provide, nor does PCNA. It sounds like the dealership has been totally forthright with the OP but he's just pissed that the dealer isn't getting the allocation. There has been nothing stopping the OP from going to any of the other five Porsche dealers in the Bay Area to get a car. Honestly, who would wait around four months in this situation and not go to a different dealer?

Agreed. But OP could have put his big boy pants on and gone to another dealer. My guess is he simply didn't want to pay market for the car, so he hung on hope with this dealer, even though it was obviously a lost cause.

LONG UPDATE FROM THE OP: Got call from Rector that I got my allocation in a trade today. Around 5 days to lock the order. Only change is CLs to 5 lugs. September build with Oct/Nov delivery. Long wait, but cool w me.
To back up, when I bought my current Porsche from Rector, I waited a few months for it to be built, so it didn't surprise me too much to wait a while for a MY16 GTS. Recall I had "ordered" my GTS in March and I had no idea when MY16s would even be widely available.
My prior (2007?) purchase experience with Rector was excellent, and they gave me a great deal, better than other Bay Area dealers by far. Why not go back to Rector, negotiate a deal, then wait for my allocation at our agreed 7% off MSRP. BUT, thanks to information on this forum, I learned MY16s were filtering out by late June, but I could not get answers about my own order status. That was very annoying.
At the suggestion of Sonnen superfan Larry, I reached out to Brett at Sonnen last week, but this was not the first time I had talked to Brett. Brett is actually the gent that told me to go buy from Rector 3 months ago because he said he wasn't interested in my deal. Too thin for his taste, no worries.
In reaching out to Brett again this past week, he was helpful and called me back a day or two after he said he would. He claimed to secure an allocation for a buyer an hour after I called him, and then a second allocation for my car a day or two later. He offered me 4% off MSRP. 4% an okay but not "good" deal with average service for a luxury car salesman IMHO. Candidly I didn't fully appreciate some of the commentary and "salesmanship" that came with the discussion. At the same time, obviously I had reached out to Rector and PCNA and expressed my concerns as in my OP. The VP of Sales at Rector became involved, delivered some excuses, but ultimately said he should know something "within a few days" and for me to "hold on". That was Friday. This is why I didn't buy from Sonnen when he offered a GTS to me this past Monday. That, and a third dealer was offering me 5% off. So my choice was to buy at 4%-5% off or wait a couple of more days and see if I could continue with my original deal with Rector. Today Rector came through with a secured allocation and offered 2 years of complementary service (or service contract?) because of the wait, and for the trouble around securing my allocation. I see this as great customer service with a few bumps along the way, and I appreciated the gesture. To be fair, I don't know the actual value of the 2 year service/service contract thing, but my price savings is 3-4 grand (plus 2 years service) relative to the comparative deals and hopefully covers my clear wrap or something. For me a few grand is of value.
Now for those of you also waiting, I kept hearing how "incredibly rare" and "hard to get" these cars are, and maybe that's true, but it's a noteworthy point that Sonnen secured not one but two 911 GTS Coupe allocations when I called him last week. Took him 24-48 hours I'm just say'n.. believe the hype.. or don't.
Lastly, I am disappointed at some of the disparaging commentary I've seen in some of these posts. Always a few to be expected, but one guy poking at my "commitment"... to a car purchase!? LOL Another clown talking about me putting on my "Big Boy Pants". Really? It's always amazing to me how brave and brazen folks are behind those screens and keyboards. Your parents divorce early? No daddy in your life? LOL. I often wonder how men get to the point of unhappiness where they are opportunistically rude to one another in the name of passive aggressive discontent. Sad, but comes with the territory on the interwebs I suppose.
But anyway, now I wait.. tick tock...tick tock...

I know its cheeky to ask; but would you share what deal you managed to extract from Rector %-age wise?
just so I can complain to Brett when I pick my car up on Friday!
p.s
dont forget to share your spec!

Its a great transmission; I personally find the programming of it frustrating,
my (limited) experience of driving it in Germany is that in both normal and
sport mode (auto) it like to short shift around 2500 (3500 in sport) and
heads for the high gears in an attempt to get better fuel economy.
On the track, in sport+ and manual shifting is a different matter, I personally
do not like to let a car shift itself on the track, I think I have more telemetry and context than the computer
It wish I knew more about how the PDK 'learns' from driving style and alters its algorithms accordingly then I could drive in a style that might encourage
it to shift like a sportscar and not a minivan or SUV!

Congrats on getting the car from Rector Gabe and nice build!. The 2 year service contract is a $1200 value btw.
As of today these are the available 2016 991 140 in V200 status to build. This has changed since I last looked a few days ago which means some dealers had allocations in their bucket and had not built them as yet, or they acquired an additional pool car. Final allocations are due at the end of this month for October, November and December build dates. No hype here just facts....

And no, my parents were married for 46 years before my mom passed. Nice build by the way.
