I wonder what's happening when one's cancel is special build, order does the dealer keep is "gorgeous" deposit. In that case that car should be highly negotiable!

Heck, you can order a custom car with as little as a $500 deposit. I'm sure refunds are state law specific and vary also by dealership.

CA law requires the deposit to be full y refundable...but I think we may have to start looking at a restocking fee if this trend continues of people ordering a very hard to get car and then not taking delivery....very frustrating for the sales crew when this happens.

I agree Brett - its pretty ****ty, if you guys sold out a car from underneath a customer can you imagine the sh*tstorm that would occur on RL?

I can understand it if someone's circumstances change, but its also pretty selfish because for every special order car that isn't purchased by the ordering customer there goes a build allocation that someone else could have had!

I would never never want to cancel my car! BUT, at the same time, for those of us who plan to lease, the dealer sure has us by the nuts. Will we get approved? At what rate? Are they telling the truth? How has Porsche manipulated residuals since the time of your order (not the dealer--I guess, but again trust factor must be high)...? And there is not another dealer down the street (well maybe, but not with your build). The only lever we can pull is walking away--and after months of waiting, I'm sure it would feel very sad!!

In your experience what are the common reasons for a customer to not take delivery?

You can easily obtain the quarterly PCNA leasing information that covers rates, residuals etc so there is no room for negotiation on those on either side of the deal...

Take a pick:

Job loss
Spouse loss, aka divorce

If you even get the real truth.
