Known as the Cannstatter Volksfest!

I did my first one in 1981!

My first Octoberfest was back in 1972!

+1 on volksfest

Baden Baden is also nice and relaxing. Not too far from Stuttgart. Good drives through the Black Forest. Brenners park is a nice hotel in town.

The AVIS km charge is 1 Euro per KM over the 200KM per day allowed. That rate has been in place as far back as 2010 and was the same last month. I do think the Museum cars can be rented for multiple days. The cost is higher than Avis but I understand you do get more free KM's.

Yes -- this matches up with my experiences using Avis.

Oktoberfest is a "****-show" with horrible music in a gigantic tent. I doubt I'd go there for my honeymoon if I was only in Europe for a week. Further, the hotel prices during it are steep. The Stuttgart fest is probably a better idea if you want something a bit more authentic German.

Berlin is one of the ugliest cities in Europe; the architecture is all cheap stuff that was thrown up after WW2. Absolutely amazing place to party though. I'd skip it because starting in Frankfurt I'm not sure 8 days is going to be enough unless you don't do anything else.

With only 8 days you really don't have a lot of time for stuff; personally I'd check out Frankfurt, Heidelberg, Stuttgart, and Cologne since you're basically in that area anyways. You could go drive on the Nurburgring on one of the days too if you wanted -- it's in-between Frankfurt and Cologne.

The Cathedral at Cologne (Kolner Dom) is not to be missed. And impossible to miss, as it's right next to the train station.
