No, to clarify then: Should be replaced under warranty if you are still covered by a warranty. I haven't had a P-car yet that wasn't covered by a warranty, so I tend to forget. LOL. Sorry if my statements led anyone to think there was an extended or special warranty for the fan motors.....

That sounds pricey (or wrong part) if I remember correctly it's should be around $150.

Same here. However, both my extractor fans when connected directly to 12 volts spin up just fine. I guess I'll need to get my service guy to investigate...

Hello everyone,
This is my first post here on Rennlist. I have a 2012 991.1 and got the same message yesterday. I’ve made an appointment to take it in to the dealer but it’s not until a week from today. Just wondering if it is okay to drive around with this for a bit until i get it fixed.
thank you,

thank you,
Welcome! I'd guess you'll likely be ok if it's cool out but I wouldn't drive it on a hot day (or track type driving) with a fan failed, especially if you get stuck in traffic. FWIW it's like a 15 minute swap out so worth considering DIY if your car isn't under warranty.

Hey! Thank you for the speedy response. I’d love to fix it myself however I know I’d have difficulty spotting out the problem and fixing it. I do have extended warranty on it but I was wondering if driving it local would hurt the engine in any way.

The way P-techs are troubleshooting this is by checking the code via PIWIS (P1670, fan unit 1, left side). They then swap sides with your existing blower units (they just snap in) and verify the code remains the same or changes to P1672 (fan unit 2) if it changes as mine did, its a specific fan unit drawing more current than Porsche thinks it should and requires replacement. Interestingly both my fans spin up, one just trips a code because of excessive current draw...

I’d make sure the fans 4 corners are secure in their seats and unplug and replug them in.

Maybe its something simple

I double checked as per your suggestions and it is secure. It make no sense, as the display states, there is a fault, yet it works. Anyone has any idea?
