Default 991.2 "Pure GT" Model??

http://m.motortrend.com/wot/1506_report_porsche_911_to_add_pure_gt_model.html

According to Motortrend, with the 991.2 will come what sounds like a Carrera S with the GT3's 3.8 Liter mated to a manual transmission! The idea is to produce a driving experience true to the 911 ethos.

Savy alternative to the 4 liter turbo??

Thoughts?

Man, marketing is the name of the game - Porsche sure knows how to push the "I want one" button.

They sure do. They perfected this with the 997 generation.

And I'm one of the suckers who keeps pushing that button.

They're already hearing the backlash over the turbo engines and looking to please the NA crowd thinking this will quiet the criticism and not rain on the turboization parade.

Of course you'll have to jump through hoops for this "GT" model I'm sure. All to be a lucky NA owner! Even though they're all NA's now (except for the real "turbos").

Like mentioned on another post. Marketing at its best!

Downplay the manual on the GT3 and praise the PDK, now hype up the manual. Like a crazy roller coaster ride with high ticket prices!

Always on to the next potential car sale! That's business though.

Let's see, lighter, better balance, but less grip, slower lap times but more raw...doesn't Porsche already offer that in the form of the Cayman S?

I can't decide whether the 400 variants of the 911 Porsche offers is nuts or pure marketing genius.

Sounds like they're gunning for 25 variants of the 911! But you have to hand it to Porsche; they're quite adept at marketing.

its pure speculation at this point, but if the demand for the GT4 is anything to go by, such a 911 GT? would definitely fly off of the shelves ... of course the question is how such a car as this would be positioned next to the next GT3?

it could be, now I am just speculating wildly, that in fact what they are talking about is a change in philosophy for the GT3, since at 3.8 or 4.0L NA building a larger capacity NA motor will be challenging, 4.1... 4.2?

so in light of the GT4, why not lighten the GT3, pop a proper 6MT manual (not a PDK variant) into it and return to its roots, imagine a 996GT3 with 450-475 bhp ... I think it was called a race car back
then...

that's something I'd sell my 7.2 GT3 for...

Why not just make a manual GT3. The same people would buy that car.

I wonder how this car would be priced in relation to the GT3?

Also, this might affect the resale of 997.2 GT3 and make them reasonably priced again. Why is Porsche torturing us like this haha

I'm thinking that this is perhaps simply a rethinking of the GT3 "concept" ... at 3.8 or 4.0L NA, based on aftermarket tuners such as Manthey and Sharkwerks, only a 4.1 or 4.2L seems attainable, and event then its not clear that it can
meet euro regulations (why else would the rest of the range go turbo)...

So, if you cant build a bigger more powerful NA engine to compete with the GT-R crowd ... change the game, especially since your latest product (GT4) could sell 10-20x what you initially conceived the production run would be.

re-imagine the 996.1 or 996.2 chassis in a 991, drop the existing 3.8L engine into it ... slap a 'proper' MT onto it (i.e not a breathed on PDK box) make it
a bit lighter and voila ... a new 'drivers' car...

Potential names? These would resonate pretty well with enthusiasts. We've already seen a Cayman R so a Carrera R or 911R wouldn't be out of the question and the Club Coupe might be too close to Clubsport, but we haven't seen an RS America since the 90s...

Porsche's decision to not offer the manual in the GT3 has never made any sense to me... unless they're selling every one they can possibly build anyway!
