Does anybody actually use start/stop? My dealer turned it off on my Cayman S during our test ride and I've never turned it back on.

I have a 13 C2S manual and it is the best shifting manual Porsche I've ever had (and I've had many). You may need to get used to the longer clutch travel but once you've done that it should be really smooth. If not, maybe something is wrong with your car - drive another to see - or have your dealer check it out..

I love this gearbox. The shift action is like a rifle bolt and the lever is close to the steering wheel, where it was in the Carrera GT and Ferrari 250 GTO. Yes, the clutch has a fairly long travel and is quite heavy, but then, it is dealing with 400 horsepower, so it should be. Hopefully, the OP will get used to it.

Assuming there is nothing wrong with your clutch or transmission, I think it is a question of adaptation. The pedal needs to be fully depressed (to the floor). The gearbox will loosen up over the first 2K miles (at least mine has). You will get the hang of it, try not to overthink each shift. It should become reflexive. If it's easier, ignore 7th gear until you get the hang of it.

6000 miles here and no problem with the 7MT at all. It was perfect from day 1 and I love it

Sure, why not? It works great under the right conditions and situation. Saves gas & the air! Most municipalities suggest or recommend that if you are idle for more than 10s w the engine running, turn it off. This feature does it ALL automatically 😀!

Agree with most here, do a long test drive with another 991 manual. I feel the long travel of the clutch helps keep me more grounded and focused on my road conditions, as well as wanting to get to 2k sooner

Only in a manual car because I can start the engine with the clutch pedal, rather than by releasing the brake. It's a control thing. Particularly at a long light or where traffic is slow and there are a series of lights (hello Embarcadero) it's kind of nice / peaceful with the engine off.

Having had my GTS for a month or so and 3500km ... I do love the 7 speed. I love the height of the shift lever and while I have not had any problems with the pedal actuation... I have noticed clutch smell from time to time. Having driven my last car ('05 M3 cab) for 170,000km, E30 for 316,000km without any clutch replacement or problems, I do wonder why the smell. ... Having said that this is my first brand new car ever ... I must be riding the clutch .. Is my only explanation.

I confess I did stall my 991 once or twice when new, and the clutch does feel different. Don't be embarrassed about taking it into the dealer to have them look at it. It may take a few more days and another few miles to get used to it and comfortable with the clutch feel.

I remember being behind some guy in a black 911 on a hill with temporary plates on it, and he stalled it. He (we assume it was a he) got pissed and ran it up to 5K RPMs before slipping the clutch and taking off in a cloud of smoke.

Not tire smoke, clutch smoke. Ouchie!

I've noticed the smell sometimes too after driving a bit (not sure it's clutch smell) but I definitely don't ride the clutch.. never had problems with previous cars.
