Default Input needed - 991 as High Mileage Daily Driver

Hey Guys

I need honest input. I drive about 150 miles a day round trip to work - Philly to Princeton. Mostly highway. I'm thinking about a 991 as a daily commuter. I know its not the most economical choice etc, but I spend a lot of time in the car and I'd like one that I really love.

Anyway - what do you think? Is a C4 991 w/ PDK / PASM an option? Would it just beat me up with the noise and harsh ride ? Or is it a good cruiser I can also enjoy on the weekend back roads.

I have a Cayenne S for Home Depot trips etc - I'm really just asking about the quality of the commute.

Thanks
Jeff

You'll be fine. And the car can get 30 mpgs on the highway.

PASM will give you the option of comfort mode and firm mode for the suspension.

You'll love it! I do at least 60 miles per day and its great. All my 911's have been big mileage DD and have no regrets. You might want to search the debate about 18 way seats,as that may be helpful.

Thanks Guys - Both you guys look to live in areas that get snow - do you drive your 991 year round?

To be honest, the road noise would bother me for that distance. The few times I've taken my Porsches on long distance trips, the constant tire thrum and roar (compared to regular cars) has gotten a bit tiresome. The 991 is definitely better, but not anything like a regular car.

Funny, but when I'm driving an hour to get to the mountains or the track, I don't hear the tires. But when I'm driving to the beach or somewhere that doesn't benefit from me having 305 PZeros, their noise bothers me.

The only impediment would be the incredibly poorly maintained Pennsylvania roads.

I've had my 991C2S for about 3 months and commute about 50 miles round trip, mostly in heavy traffic. I have zero regrets and you won't either. As others have said, the tire and road noise is a consideration but I don't find it bad. The ride is not harsh at all, especially if you have the tire pressures at the lower comfort PSI (you need to select the comfort mode for TPMS in the multifunction display so you don't get a low pressure warning). Seats, driving position, ergonomics, etc are superior to so called commuter cars. I have been pleasantly suprised with fuel economy. A couple caveats, I chose PDK since I knew I'd be in a lot of stop and go traffic. Less fun than 7MT but makes the commute more tolerable. I also didn't go with the sport PASM (SPASM) to try to optimize ride comfort. I have the BOSE "upgrade". I see you have a Cayenne. IMHO, the BOSE in the 991 is better than in the Cayenne but it is still just OK. If you listen to a lot of music on your long commute the Burmester is probably worth it.

10 mm drop vs PASM suspension. Springs and antiroll bars are stiffer. Front spoiler a little differnt.

Yes . Spasm is 10mm lower and a little harsher with shorter springs. I have it and like it but I don't drive nearly as much as you and never drive it in the winter.

And makes the car look sooooo much better. Closes the unsightly wheel gap. Improved handling as well.

Winter driving?? Might want to pass on it. I'm not an all season guy. I don't like puddles either!

As far as racking up the miles on it, the car can definitely handle it! Would be a great daily commuter. Not one for me because of my work/lifestyle unfortunately.
