Default Possible ducktail design flaw?

I love the duck and have checked the box to add it to my new car. I read something about the design allowing water, in a heavy rain for instance, to pool above the spoiler and then slosh into the engine on heavy braking. Has anyone else heard of this. Any duck owners, please chime in and tell me I am wrong. Hard to imagine with 911's driven in the rain in Germany, Porsche would let this slip by.

Water? You mean like rain water? Getting into the engine bay?

No problems here. Even going through touchless drive through car washes

Everything is nicely tucked in back there and covered.

Duck or no duck we all have air inlets covered with louvers.

OP - I believe that you read that in another thread in a different forum. the topic was about an individual who custom-designed a ducktail for a Targa. One of the thread responses expressed exactly that concern about the custom design. I don't believe it's ever been raised about Porsche's design, nor do I believe that Porsche would design something with such a blatant flaw. You're ok.

I'm not even sure that's where the engine's located. I opened the Exterior Glove Box Door that's right in front of the ducktail last night and there were a couple of large cooling fans attached to a motherboard of some sort. I just assumed the CPU was back there and they had moved the engine somewhere else. I looked for it but it got dark before long and I never located...

No issues with the duck. Duck away with no worries!

too funny. My biggest disappointment when I finally got my 911 ... where's the engine? I want to see it.

Ferdinand Porsche had them install a VWAG V6 starting with the 991 but hid it under the 80s style Boom Box whose speakers are disguised to look like cooling fans and whose real function is to reproduce digitized "flat six " sound files as well as what you hear inside via the Sound Symposer ported through behind the rear seats .
Wolfgang Porsche discovered this and had both his cousin Ferdinand and his wife kicked off the Board of Directors ...it's been all over the news the past couple weeks .

I generally avoid driving my ducktailed Porsche in the rain.

On the aftermarket one that does slosh -- is this worse than washing your car?

On month 38 of outdoor use, and 24/7 outdoor parking rain or shine...

All right. Thank you all. I think we can put this one to bed. Duck me running!

The 991's 9A1 is the most hidden ever. But there never really was a 911 engine you could see very well. The air-cooleds all sit way down low, and flat, and mostly covered with a big cooling fan and shroud. Later on, by the time they lost the fan and shroud to water cooling, so much other stuff had been added it only kept getting covered up worse.

Here's an early '69 911T, not exactly stock, but you get the idea. Even though you can see everything its still disappointing because some of the best bits like the valve covers with PORSCHE on them are way down low and far off to the sides and angled to where they're hardly visible. You can just barely see them on either side, if you know where to look.

It would look even worse though if the '69 didn't have such a low body line at the rear. The rear end of a 991 is much higher, making a nice deep hole to hide the 9A1 in.
