I took ED on a 1995 993 in the summer of 1994. I will relate the delivery to US on another post. It could have been unhappy. In the 18 years I owned it, the only outrageous job was replacement of the AC for $1600. I spoke to the present owner earlier last week. He is impressed that he has the same clutch, the same rear brakes and only the third set of tires at 100K+ miles. He intimated I was too passive behind the wheel. Not so! If you know how to accelerate, shift, brake, and DRIVE and care for the car you know how to preserve the car and do not need supplementary warranties. None of my Porsches have been warranty queens. I change the oil at 5K. I tune every 20K. I am compulsive. Every person who has purchased my Porsches has done so because of the attention I can document. That is all it takes. I already have a buyer for my GTS that arrives next week. Be compulsively attentive!

Ooops, a little research proves me wrong. Yes, even a Dodge Aries in nice shape - even if not previously owned by John Voight - is worth some coin, at least it was in in this auction.
OK Chuck, you were right.

Ah ha! My early morning coffee, replaced by an opportunity to put Chuck in his place. WRONG! You are so wrong my friend, what about a Chrysler K-car? Think one of those POSs is worth more today than 30 years ago? Huh?

(I looked- what a truly epic POS! But who did the seats? They actually look pretty good! )

Just had my second switchover valve replaced in three days. That makes three in less than one year. I love this car and have no intention of selling as I want my 2 and 5 year old to learn how to drive a manual on it. That said they've gotten complex and harder to work on yourself.

And I agree, the car is a keeper.

I'm worried about frequency (cost I expected)
I considered the cost of repairs as part my decision to buy my first Porsche (2013 new 911 C4S). It's my daily driver, BUT in only 23 months (17k miles), I've been to the dealer for 6 different, significant warranty repairs. The dealer has been great for me, but I'm beginning to wonder about the frequency of repairs for other 991 owners?
I typically own a car 5+ years, and I've never been to the shop this much, especially in just 2 years. OK, many of us had the 991 heating system actuator/valve issue (no heat), however I've also had a transmission leak, shifter cable issue, a major issue with one of the cylinders, and now cooling system errors (still trying to resolve that). Even though it was a demonstrator (460 miles), I can't blame it all on that.
Hopefully this is unusual, but I'm starting to worry what will become of this after the warranty expires, if this rate keeps up. Again, the dealer has been terrific, but I'm starting to get disappointed in build quality.

Of course, it's all relative. At 70, one of my goals is to outlive the 10/19 CPO on my 13 C4. We're driving the best performance car in the world. Took my 15 year old granddaughter for her first Porsche ride the other day. She loved it.

Had an interesting brake issue. The rotors would squeak on accelaration
This issue lasted until I drove it to the dealer and, it stopped making noise.

I am still not worried about any future maintenance costs.
The 991 is still the best Porsche (except for my 1973 Carrera). It does everything well. It's a joy to drive every day.
