Default 997 Targa top vs. 991 glass sunroof?

Can anyone who has had a 997 Targa and a 991 with the glass sunroof give their comparison / contrast / experience of both? I'm wondering if the glass sunroof in the 991 is in the ballpark of the same experienced as the 997 Targa either closed or open.

Also, has anyone who was selected to purchase (and accepted the offer for) a Club Coupe heard from PCNA on next steps?

Thanks!

I have a 991 glass top and a 993 targa (is that close enough?).
I have had the Targa for 12 years and the 991 for two months, but I can tell you that while the glass top in the 991 when closed and the shade open is very nice and airy feeling, it is nowhere near the feeling of a Targa.

You still have a fairly large roof area behind the glass panel that is solid in the 991. The Targa is ALL glass straight to the back. Very open feeling like nothing I have ever driven. I have also been in a 997 Targa and it is a little bit more closed in feeling because the shade mechanism lives in a pod behind the top glass panel so it obstructs more of the open feeling from the top. And when the top is open, it obstructs much more of the rear window than a 993 Targa, because it retract with the glass top and sits at the bottom of the rear window viewing area. And the top side rails of the car from front to back are much thicker feeling in a 991 closing in the cabin even more. At least it feels that way.

I love the 991 and it is a very closed in cozy feeling with the shade covering the glass. When opened it lets a lot of light in and actually is a larger glass area when closed and the shade open, because when you open the sunroof, it does not retract all the way open to fully expose the opening.

991 sunroof vs Targa - night and day in my opinion.

I have a post on this forum called "New To me, 991 2013 C4". Page 3 has pics of both of these cars together. Take a look.

Thanks, that's all helpful.

And great pictures of a really nice pair of cars. The Targa looks like a total keeper. I had two 993 Targas and a 997 Targa so am way familiar with the experience. It's really helpful to hear about how the 991 glass roof feels.

I felt the same when sitting in one with the glass sunroof - that it was nice and in some ways similar but not the same.

Sorry I did not see in your original post that you had 993 Targas in the past. I also had 1987 Targa for 14 years and that was night and day between that and the 993. I was tempted to go for the 991 Targa, but cost and potential mechanism issues and rattles kept me away.

No worries and thanks again for the info.

FWIW, I absolutely loved both of my 993 Targas. And I especially loved my 997 Targa! I think the 991 Targa looks fantastic, but the top is an overly complicated and heavy beast, so not particularly interesting to me either. I'm hoping that the glass sunroof gives me at least some of the feeling of the "old" glass roof Targas, recognizing that it won't be the full experience.

I had both a 996 and a 997 Targa. Although those models were panned by many, I loved the "big sunroof" Targas. They just worked for me.

When I looked at the 991 coupe sunroofs, it just didn't cut it for me. From a light and open air perspective, the 996 and 997 Targas were right in the middle. The 991 coupes have less light and air than the old Targas. The 991 cabs have more light and air. I chose the cab.

I agree. I opted for a glass sunroof on the 991 because after having two Targas, a coupe without an option for a lot of light in the interior would have seemed very strange to me. Not like a Targa, but acceptable to me at least. Especially since I am keeping my 993 Targa.

I finally found time to go to a dealer and check out the glass sunroof. It was good to see the difference. I'm with you about it seeming strange to not have plenty of light in the cabin. And also understand the difference now that I've seen it. It's weird, from the outside it looks like it would be much more similar to the 996/997 Targa, but on the inside it's much more like a conventional glass sunroof.
