Default 991.2 Spotted in Colorado?

Posted this on the other forum as well...

Strange thing happened on my lunch break today. Saw a black 991 on the road, which I almost never see in the wild. Since it's so rare to see one near my job, I slowed down to take a look at it in motion. The driver was driving so slow, it was hard to even get next to it. It was an older woman in her 50's or maybe even early 60's. She was probably driving about 37 mph on a 55 mph road. It was very bizarre and frustrating, but in a way it made me more determined.

So about a mile into it, I finally got next to her and then a second 991 that I hadn't seen suddenly appears, this time driven by a younger male. He gave it a little punch on the gas, but still he was driving pretty slow. When he drove by the 1st 991, I noticed that the tail lights had some sort of darker wrap tint on them, and it was cut kind of jagged like a test mule. I've seen many test cars in my life, having lived in Stuttgart for several years in the past.

I then noticed that the rear valance was different, like the 991.2 spy shots I'd seen on the web. Most noticeably, the closer-to-center placement of the tail pipes.

I also noticed that the license plates were from Michigan on both cars which is quite far away from Denver. I snapped a few pics, but I felt weird about photographing some stranger's car so I did it as incognito as I could. Sorry, no front shots, but it didn't look like much was changed. I couldn't notice any difference from the quick glances I got at the front. The cars were black though, and pretty dirty so it's hard to say. That coupled with the fact that they were driving so slow that it was hard to get a good look.

Anyway, here is the best pic I could manage considering the circumstances.

1st car

2nd car

Interesting. This may well be the first ever sighting of a 911 with positive camber.

Thanks for the great pic. Curious as to why they were driving so slow and with the wing up. T

I originally thought that both cars were the same, but the other car had dual tips and more standard placement. Also had what looked like a turbo rear deck spoiler.

[Pic moved to the first post]

I doubt it really has positive camber. It's probably my poor iPhone 4S camera making it look like that because I was moving. It looked like normal camber in person. The other cars in the pic seem to have the same picture distortion as well.

I'm not an expert on Porsche exhausts, so I can't really say if they sounded different from the 991.1, but keep in mind they were driving so slow and not revving it at all that I couldn't hear much. When the younger guy hit the gas, it sounded nice, like it had PSE, but I can't be sure. He probably went from 35 mph to 50 mph and then let off. They were just coasting along much slower than traffic.

Right. No worries. That's one of my biggest concerns with the 991.2, whenever they finally reveal it officially.

Thanks very much for the first 991.2 sightings in the US though! Fantastic pics.

Both forums have been such a wealth of information to me that I'm glad I could contribute something back.

This is a real BIG FOOT sighting! Great job! Is that tape around the rear lenses?

Yep. It doesn't show up well in the pictures, but the tape was smoke black color and roughly cut.

They're trying to hide the shape of the new tail lights.

I think the new ones may be a bit larger.

Seemed to me like the LED pattern and internal reflector design looked kind of different too. Like it had more vertical lines incorporated into it. Could also have been an optical illusion due to the tinted camouflaging, or just me seeing something incorrectly.

EDIT: Yeah, after looking at the pics again the pointy edge that tapers towards the front of the car seems to have been squared out a little bit on the cars that I photographed today. So, yes you are right they would be larger.

I think they may be 918-like, something similar to the Macan? If I recall, the facelifted cars will be taking lightly or heavily from the 918. The steering wheel on the GT4 and GT3 RS for one is a good example.
