I absolutely love that decision by Porsche I was extremely disillusioned by how they phased out the 6spd for the GT3 and turbo models completely in favor of track times and now they release this analog gem-of-a-car in the GT4!

+1

It does give you some hope that the NA engines continue as part of the GT cars. From what they've hinted to, it seems like it.

I find that bizarre too. After all, it looks like the GT3 board is the most active followed by the 991. Speaks for the great thing they've done with the GT4. This coming from a guy who never liked the Cayman. I just appreciate the effort they put into it.

It's nice seeing a lot of activity and new stuff to read. 6Speed has really really slowed down over the past 4-6 months.

maybe there is a real gap between the 911/GT crowd and the "typical" Cayman owner???

The "hairdressers" not that interested?

I was cracking up when I heard that term. Was it referencing Boxster or Cayman owners? I forget.

Just wondering if thats just the excuse to redesign a better intake.

I wonder how a 385HP 6MT car gets the same 0-60 as the 430HP 7MT 50th/GTS.

It might even be a conservative time.

I think I referred to my forthcoming GTS cab as a "hairdressers car" (despite the fact that I am not a hairdresser, and only ever get $20 haircuts)

I think they needed to redesign the intake in order to fit the 9A1 into the Cayman chassis which intakes from the sides vs the back/top like the 911.

as for the matching 0-60, its all about power/weight etc

GT4 people are vagabonds at the moment, give us our own section! I've always looked past the Boxster and Cayman as I've always been a die hard 911 fan. I was actually looking to purchase a manual 997 Turbo or 997 GT3 this year and all of a sudden I received this news

[QUOTE=lunarx;12024809} I wonder how a 385HP 6MT car gets the same 0-60 as the 430HP 7MT 50th/GTS.[/QUOTE]

My thoughts on this:

1. GT4 385 HP advertised is sandbagged by marketing. The engine output is over 400 hp, maybe 415...
2. 2950 lbs GT4 vs 3150 lbs GTS
3. 6 psd vs 7 spd a non issue 0-60 sprint

Seriously.. Unless the intake tract for the gt4 is SEVERELY compromised, losing 45hp is absurd. Out another way.. How many cars can you GAIN 45hp with just by changing the intakes?.. Exactly.

I have no info to speculate on the he actual number.. Just VERRRY curious to have a shop put up a carrera S and gtr on same dyno at same time and see what comes up...

Here is where I think AP is being disingenuous... yes they put the manual in to please those who bitched about the new GT3 being PDK only...true, but...

...also true (actually, more true), however, is that Porsche fundamentally thinks about its sports car product strategy using the hierarchy idea... this car still needs to fit in the hierarchy, and it just so happens the 6-speed manual keeps it's acceleration under check. With the lower curb weight, GT3 brakes and superior mid engine balance it certainly stops harder and corners much faster than the current 991 CS. So it MUST NOT ACCELERATE AS QUICKLY. Ergo...a manual 6 spd for this year.

In 2016, watch for the 991.2 with 450 hp turbo mill/PDK to hit the scene... then, and only then, it will be acceptable to put the PDK into the Cayman GT4. Hierarchy stays in tact...
