You'd have to be absolutely nuts to do this imo. I know of M3 enthusiasts who are returning to the e9X to get back to the lovely NA V8 (which I completely understand), but the 991 C2 beats the 997 C2S in every way I can imagine. My first 991 was a C2 and it was an easy choice for me even over the 997 GTS.

There are many of us here that owned a 997 before buying a 991. There are few if any on the 997 forum that sold their 991 to go to a 997...993 maybe, but not 996 or 997 non-turbos.

I know several people (with multiple 911 ownership) who did just that. You should have your reasons to consider the change and that should be enough for you to decide. Most/all people in this forum will disagree with you but that should not deter you from making a decision, even if it is against this forum's grain.

The only time I would consider trading back would be if there were a major technological change like the transition from air to water cooled engines. So if someone considered trading a 996 to a 993S back in 2000, I would recommend trading back. But that certainly is not the case with a 991 and 997. I see no reason to take the significant depreciation hit on a relatively new 991 to buy an older 997.
