Default PSP option with SCP

Anyone have a C2S/C4S 991 with both power steering plus option and sports chrono option who can tell me if the PSP shuts off while sports plus mode is activated to effectively "turn off" the PSP assistance?

I am thinking of getting a C4S with SPASM/SCP of the lot that has the PSP option and I am worried it may be to intrusive for a sporty steering feel.

I have yet to drive the car in question, but wanted to hear what other folks have experienced.

I did have a 991 C2S without it that only had PASM and SCP and when Sports plus button was activated the steering feel definitely changed for the better!!

Your thoughts?

Thanks!!

Have both options in my 2013 C2S & notice no steering difference in the modes,
Seldom at crawl speeds in sports plus though.

Many discredit the power steering plus option....I find it non-intrusive.

Worth $270? Doubtful, but I own it - end of conversation.

I do not have the power steering plus option. My car did not come with it, but I find steering perfectly fine. Even if you have it, I've heard that it turns off after you reach a certain speed anyway. I think it's only functional for slow speeds like slow turning in parking lots, etc.

Maybe someone could correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks HH,

That's just it, otherwise the spec of this lot car is what I want, but I am a bit hesitant because I have never driven a PSP optioned car and I DO NOT want any intrusiveness/numbness/etc as I may track this car on occasion!

Do you have sports chrono? If yes, do you feel the steering feel tighten up when sports plus is activated?

Thanks,

Thanks STG,

I found the C2S I had had great steering feel and I am afraid the PSP may be a step backwards..Analysis/Paralysis

I wouldn't pass on the car just because it had it. Like I said, it's just something to assist for turning in slow speeds. I think it's not even working when you actually get driving.

Yes - both sports chrono & PSP. Honestly I don't feel the steering tighten up -
it feels very commutative when I'm turning & the car goes where it's pointed.

I do micro manage my yard & wax jobs though.

I have both and don't think that power steering is affected by sports mode. It's just "on" at low speed.

That being said, PSP is not a deal breaker on a used car. It is not intrusive. I wouldn't order it as an option because it just isn't necessary but it does not bother me that I have it.

My 991 S does not have it P-car777 but I have driven numerous 4S's and S's with the power steer plus and you can't even notice that it's not on at speed. Even on the 4S you can barely notice it helping at parking lot speeds. I asked a couple of service managers at what speed it reverts back to non power steer plus and they couldn't tell me. Sounds sexist but it's a box option for a guy who's wife is going to be driving his or Her 4S. That's the consensus. Like the other boys said, if it was an option on a car that someone was purchasing used I wouldn't take a pass just because it has it. It does turn "off" though at speed. Just like the A/C compressor under hard acceleration.

Marcus,

Thanks for sharing your experience, so bottom line is you think on a 4S with SPASM its a non-issue and will not take any feedback or fun away from spirited driving?

Not even the least bit.

The only guy that would complain about not having power steering plus in a 911 is the engineer in Stuttgart that came up with the idea. No one else cares or will notice. SPASM or not. If I lived north of the 49th parallel I would own a 4S without question. Or even in a state where it's wet a lot of the time or it snowed. The 4S is a LOT of fun driving in the snow. Just google it.

I have both sports chrono and PSP and don't really notice it - certainly not intrusive. Of course, this is the only 911 I have ever driven so I really have nothing to compare it against lol!
