Yes Porsche are very expensive down under a new Gt3 starts at around $350K ,,,tax,s in Oz are out of control on every thing ,,,the cost of living is very high.........Second hand P cars are better value for money as all of the government tax,s have been paid by the original owner .....How ever a recent 06 997 Carrera s purchase with 43000klm,s on the dial cost me $100k ,,,,in the U.S I could buy a lot more car for that money ............
The positive side to this is I have a ride that is not very common and you don,t see many on our roads from day to day ........

HK Govt Tax is 100% of the vehicle. So the Turbo is around 650K AUD. Singapore is much more expensive than HK. It also has that 10 year license thing as well which makes the total bill even more...

The shock expressed is based on the erroneous assumption that the US$ and AU$ are equivalent. Not so! Though I know little about salaries in Australia, the AU$ is the equivalent of US$0.80. Moreover, shipping costs from Stuttgart to Melbourne or Sydney may be prohibitive. There are a great many other factors not considered here that may justify the price. I know when I visited there professionally 35 years ago, I was astounded how poorly paid were people with MD and PhD after their name. The real answer to the question of a burdensome price is sales per capita in Australia versus the US. This would factor in salaries and currency differences. It would not be accurate but along with Porsche's expenses and Australia's taxes may explain the difference.

Having lived in Australia (Baulkhan Hills, suburb of Sydney) for 6 years with 2 of my daughters born there, the cost of living is way high. Nice place to live though. People are way more friendly than any place I've been through. The tax is way high. Back then, anything above A$50K is tax 50%.

US$ buying power is more than A$. I am getting the same $ amount when I was there but the $ here in US buys more. The actual value of products sold there are the same everywhere but the added tax, tariff and any additional penalties make it more expensive.

Somewhat dated (2011) snapshot of global import duties and local car fees/taxes if anyone is interested in the detail.

We pay the lowest prices for cars and the highest for (prescription) drugs in America. It all works out!

Just purchased a monthly flea/tick oral pill for our dogs that our vet recommended (Nexgard).

Went online and purchased from a supplier who ships from Australia . Cost was 70% less for same exact product sold by multiple Pet Suppliers in the USA. Shipping included.

A very good example of Capitalism vs Socialism...

Us capitalists in the USA are paying the real market value for both, and the socialists countries are subsidizing their drug prices by taxing everything they can, especially luxury goods.

It's no wonder that the only real breakthrough drugs created in the last 40 years have all come from the US. Taxing the life out of the rich is a proven formula for retarding economic growth. When was the last time you were hired by a poor person?

Socialism is wonderful until you run out of other people's money...

The reason import cars are so expensive in Australia was originally to protect the home car manufacturers and force people to buy domestic. Toyota, for example, would ship engines in pieces for their cars to be assembled in Australia. The Australian built engines were terrible compared to the Japanese made ones. In 1983 my Honda Accord which cost me $10,500 Canadian was $25,000 Australian...I couldn't believe it.

Default To call Australia a socialist country is plain wrong

Typical ignorant comment. Australia has a market driven economy just like the US. It's just the choice of how to gather and spend the tax dollar that are different.

almost all of them.

I can't think of a breakthrough drug that was invented in Canada.
