20k service question - dealer ripoff?

Buy both filters from Sunset Porsche.
Less than $500 for 20,000 miles is <10 cents per mile.

So yesterday when picking up my car from a broken serpentine belt at 35K miles, I inquired about the upcoming 40K checkup. I know it's the one that calls for replacing the air filters requiring rear bumper removal. He told me around $1500!!!
After reading this thread, I'm going to A. Shop around, call all three dealers in my town and ask for a quote, B. Call some independents I'm familiar with for a quote, C. Consider doing it myself.
There's a video floating around from the early days of the 991 where a SoCal dealer showed that removing the bumper isn't rocket science. $1500 sounds really hefty to me for maintenance, and if it's something I can learn, I'm willing to in order to bypass the costly dealer tech hourly fees.

I recently found out that there's a 2nd flr under the glovebox, so I cant be sure. However I have changed them on other VW related cars as well as my Cayenne. theres usually a plastic panel that slides out exposing the filter.
The filter in the frunk is in a plastic housing on the passenger side and is very easy to change.

Momentum and Westside Porsche are both owned by Sonic Automotive. They are terrible operators.
the rear bumper removal isnt hard, just tedious w/ the need to remove the rear wheels, all the fastners, sound tube, etct.

Yes, and this is what I used to help me double check the dealers work when I started this thread! I found the DIY for the cabin pollen filter here:

The other filter is in the frunk, hopefully I can explain how to access it without an image, its very easy even if you aren't that mechanically inclined. Lift up the large plastic panel in the frunk like you are trying to get at the battery / air pump. There is a small yellow hook that allows the panel to hang from the inside of the trunk. To your left you will see a little bit of a white filter element. This top of this housing comes off by uncliping 8-9 tabs and then pulling up. The filter will pull right out, reassembly is simply the reverse. Hope that helps!

Why do you need to remove the wheels? I swear I have seen it done without doing so. I think you just need a small right angle driver to remove the inner fender bolts.

With 19 and 20 inch wheels you don't have much room in there,so why struggle... Besides, that's the beauty of 5 lugs 45 seconds per wheel : zip zip zip.

An update on my dealings with the dealer / service manager. They refused to acknowledge that they missed changing a filter or offered to cover it, which is absurd for the amount they charged. They also wouldn't tell me what brand / spec of oil they put in the car, the receipt said 5W40, but i have no idea if its a Porsche approved oil. They still insist the car takes 9 quarts even thought I emailed them the page from the manual. The manager couldn't even tell me what else they do as part of the 20k service (i.e. all of the checkups around the car). So, since they basically never offered to correct / compensate anything. I opened a dispute with Amex and just got confirmation that they are reversing the charge!
Now to find another dealer…..

^^^WOW! Sorry...
I can't remember if you posted the dealer's name but I think you should...wouldn't we all like to know what Porsche dealership has a service manager that doesn't know what type of oil the car gets or what a 20K service entails?
