Auto Start Stop Function: Does not stay off long
How long can you guys get the 911 to turn off for in the auto stop/start mode? I've tried turning the AC off etc. and I can only get it to stay off for about 6 seconds. Any tips or thoughts on getting it to stay off longer? I doubt I save much fuel for 6 seconds here and there. If I could get it to stay off 30 seconds at a light that would make more sense.

I never use it and never will. The tiny fuel savings is more than offset by the exponential wear and tear on the starter system not to mention the engine, even of its warm.

Engine start-up was indeed the cause of a lot of engine wear. But Porsche has replaced the standard lone engine-driven oil pump with several electric pumps that begin pumping so that everything's lubed and pressure is up even before the first rev. As with so many other things, Porsche has taken something we were right to disparage because it was so poorly implemented on other cars, and done it right.

I use mine all the time. I don't think it has ever been as short as 6 seconds though. It depends on all the things already listed, but what I've found is it depends on battery voltage. It always seems to restart when voltage gets to 12.1 VDC, I have never seen it get below that before a restart.

Mine is PDK, I've tried turning everything off. It has to be some kind of malfunction. Between this and my automatic trunk open with hand wave I think I might need to get it looked at.
Passengers think you broke down when they feel it go off, kind of funny.

This is correct.. the system factors in quite a few variables to decide how and when to shut the engine off. Sometimes the engine won't go off at all at a red light. If it NEVER goes off longer than six seconds then there is a problem, otherwise if you pay close attention you'll notice it going off at different lengths throughout the day.

Maybe fully charge your battery and then retest.

Based on my experience, I'd say that battery charge is the primary factor as to how long the engine stays turned off or even if it will turn off. I only have Start / Stop enabled when I'm driving in the city, which is no more than 10% of the time. I never timed it but I know that there were occassions when the engine was off for about four minutes. Occassionally, it will turn on after about one minute but never after a few seconds.

I have yet to use it in my 68 miles of driving. I doubt I ever will. I get in and press the sport button followed by the pdcc button. Then I start driving. I don't think I will use the auto start stop to find out if it even works. This should be a poll on here. Who uses the auto start stop? Never, once in a while, almost always and always as the options.

I just wish it wasn't linked to the coasting function. Coasting should be standard in normal mode for PDK. My 6 year old Honda does it standard while Porsche brags about it as if its high tech, but links it to something completely unrelated and that I bet most people disable.
