"How Much Was That".. How do you answer?

Interestingly, only a couple people have asked how much my 996 cost (most of the general public can't tell a 964 from a 991). However, people frequently ask me what my 914 cost or what it's worth.

I've been asked the question a number of times. I generally tell them it was a gift from my wife and say I don't want to know the cost. I remember telling a neighbor the truth once and he let out a long whistle, informed me he could have acquired my car for a lot less and then turned and walked away.

You guys are kidding yourselves. No one really looks at these cars. You can't tell a new one from a ten year old. Besides there are so many around. Keep in mind 30,000 of these suckers are built every year and 70% of all 911's are still on the road. So really, is this car special?

Those of us who do own a 911, know how special they are. I could give a rat's *** about anyone else's opinion but mine. I stopped buying cars to impress people many years ago. If I was concerned about whether or not people were looking at my car I would have bought a lime green Lamborghini.
