991 sighting on cable TV
I was watching one of the two new season episodes of "Louie" the other night on FXNetwork. For anyone not familiar with the show, it's real life comedian Louie C.K. playing himself in a kind of "show about nothing" similar to Seinfeld.
Well Jerry Seinfeld was in this episode playing himself, he'd invited Louie to a fundraiser in the Hamptons to do a small bit and introduce him as the main speaker. Louie arrives and it's at some palacial estate with a motorcourt full of high end cars. As he's walking in, he passes a Guards Red 991 Carrera with Luxor Beige interior. A woman is stepping out of the passenger side, and it's the only car the camera kind of lingers on, and the only Porsche in sight.
Wonder if by any chance it was part of Jerry's collection, or if he at least asked for it to be included?

The lot was full of Bentleys, Ferraris, Maserati's, etc., it was a black tie dinner at someone's estate. The only other car that got airtime was the woman Louie left the party with's Maserati convertible. I think the lingering on the Porsche was deliberate, I just wonder exactly why (the woman getting out of the car was an extra and got maybe one second of airtime, the car got more.)
Just watched it!

The way we get "picture cars"...cars you see on camera is one of 3 ways. We either rent them from specific picture car rental businesses or rental car companies, get them from promo houses that specifically give us vehicles to use on camera or lastly, we get them from extra's.
More than likely, this car was an extra's vehicle. The casting people put out a call to people with high end cars that want to get paid to be background players and then they get a bump in pay for us using their vehicle...
Now, the reason that car was featured ( if it was an extras car and not promo) is probably because the Director of Photography liked the color. Probably thought it would "pop" on screen. Could have been any red car...
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Actually, it's just the angle and wide angle lens...I really like the way it looks in that picture...
LOL,
I was thinking the same thing. Just the camera angle. Who would want a 991 over a TT.

I like the rocker guard in black on a white car. Reminds me of all the 911 and 930 late 70's Turbo posters I had on the walls of my room as a kid.
As for the Seinfeld involvement I'm sure he had something to do with getting a nice shiny red 911 for more than a second in the shot.
I have never been inside but does anyone know if Jerry still keeps his massive Porsche/car collection in that airport hanger at Santa Monica airport?
From time to time there will be an interesting race car or classic Porsche down in Torrance at Callas Rennsport. Johnson's alignment is almost nextdoor and every time I drive by I crane my neck to see if one of his cars is there having work done.
I've worked in the transportation aspect of the movie and tv business for 34 years...I can tell you with 99.9% certainty that it was not Jerry Seinfeld's car.

I'm sure you're right about all of this. Especially the Director of Photography selecting the color. Its what they do. All Seinfeld had to say was, "well that Porsche is red" and in it goes. The red Ferrari moves to background where you don't see it. Kind of like the Porsche art in Jerry's Seinfeld apartment, the influence is there even though its not visible a lot of the time.
Enjoy!
socalsteve, I'm sure your take is most likely spot on....but....I do believe Seinfeld has more influence that most artists AND he also keeps at least a few of his driver cars at a garage he's constructed in the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Being as Louie is filmed in and around NYC, Seinfeld "could" have driven one of his cars to the set in the Hamptons, and he "could" have suggested it be featured, especially being the right color.

There is no way that J Seinfeld would have shown up that much earlier or stayed around that much after his scenes were completed...Actors do not do this. That is why their personal vehicles are never used on screen as picture vehicles...
But, if you guys want to believe that J Seinfeld showed up in a red 991 and they just happened to use it in those 2 scenes, who am I to stop you from believing this...
Enjoy!
