What's the deal with the techron injector cleaner before doing an oil change?

also is it even needed on newer cars and with modern gas has cleaning agents already like shell?

I forgot to update this thread from my Fall 2016 oil analysis. I'll update again in about a week, because I just had my oil changed again for the 40K service at almost 43,000 miles.

All is good as expected. Ran a full tank of fuel treated with Techron before this (and every) oil change. Wear metals are low-low-low (half of what you usually see posted around here). Viscosities seem a little low, but well within grade, and I did a lot of extended & higher RPM runs on a few of my fall country road runs before hibernation.

Damn, I just had 1st change done and forgot to take Blackstone kit in when I dropped car off (also to have recall addressed). Next time. Always find the analysis interesting. Thx for posting yours.

Lexvan - does your car see track usage? If so can you comment as to amount of time etc. Thanks

No track time. Others here are using it on the track for DEs. BrabB is one of them. It will hold up to the high temp, high shear, significantly better than M1 0W40.

Not sure I understand your question. It's A40 Porsche approved. Bought at Napa Auto Parts. The "5W50" is printed in red.

That answers it. :-) [scrupulously avoids any discussion of oil]

Another very good UOA from 2 weeks ago during the 40K service. Low-low-low wear metals.

Got my second 5W-50 analysis back from Blackstone at 15K. Looks great. I have abused the GTS in the mountains of NC and enjoyed it as did the car. We are doing everything correctly and the 991.1 GTS is cooperating likewise.
