Default Rollbar and seats installed

Finally got my GMG rollbar and OMP seats installed the other day. Things are looking and feeling really good. Thanks to Stable Energies in NJ, who helped put the whole package together for me--OMP seats, Schroth 6-point harnesses for HANS, Brey-Krause and Planted mounts, Recaro sliders, associated hardware, etc. And big thanks to Taso and Thomas at TKX Performance on Long Island who did the install. Despite the GMG bar being the RSR bolt-in rollbar specific to the 991, it took quite a bit of filing and adjusting for TKX to get it perfectly situated. Looks great, though.

Really looking forward to track season. Photos attached.

Very nice! Harnesses look great with the exterior color.

Sweet! Looks all business.
Are those two different seats?

Very nice setup. Were there mounting points under the carpet like previous generations? Bolted in only or also welded?

Yep--HTE-R 400 for driver, which has halo. WRC for passenger.

Mounting points for harnesses or for seats or for rollbar? The sub-strap is mounted to a Brey-Krause bar under the seat. Based on advice from my shop, we didn't want to start drilling the floorpan to do mounting plates--too many lines, etc., running through there. The seats are bolted to the floor, on Recaro sliders and Planted side mounts on the driver's side, and Brey-Krause side mounts on the passenger side. The GMG bar is bolt-in, not welded. Goes to outer seat belt mounts and rear suspension mounts.

Very cool setup, love it! The color of the harnesses is a very nice attention to detail!!!
Are you going to swap the seats for daily driving or are you going to dedicate the 991 to the track?

PS: Ran my first track day on the AD08R. I'll post first impressions tomorrow night or monday

Initial reaction: overkill. Then I remember the novice who went off in 1. Berm threw his car a good 50 ft through the air, landing upside down, crushing the roofline down to window sill/dash level. Probably could have avoided several fractures and the punctured lung with the roll cage you got there. (Or listened to any Instructor and avoided the whole thing… but that is harder for some than for others I guess.) Anyway, you're pretty darn near bullet-proof now- and with those seats will feel even more one with the car. Bon voyage!

I think it looks great!
Did you have cut up much of the interior or anything?

This car is my daily driver, but I'm just going to leave these seats in during the track season, rather than swapping back and forth. It is pretty funny to see this 44-year-old, long-legged guy get in and out of the car now, especially in the parking lot at work, at the grocery store... Now I know why dedicated race cars have pop-off steering wheels. I am getting better at it, though.
Looking forward to your AD08R impressions!

I'm with you. It's my only car, though, and I want to run up to 10 events per year, so I think it's worth it. Last year I was using my daily driver 2011 M3 sedan for track events. I feel strongly about using a HANS device on the track. The solution in the M3 was to use a 4-point, ASM Schroth QuickFit pro that is compatible with a HANS, and attaches to stock seatbelt mounting points, rather than needing a harness bar. My research revealed that many people think doing a standalone harness bar with no overhead hoop of a rollbar for rollover protection is actually more dangerous than not running harnesses at all. The harness bar in isolation is a bit of a half-arsed solution, and I've heard stories of them coming loose in a track incident and becoming a heavy metal projectile in the interior of the car.
At the end of last year I was talking with an instructor during an advanced car control clinic. His suggestion was, based on the fact that I'm running in advanced, I should have rollover protection. Either a rollbar in the car, or getting a dedicated, caged track car like a Spec Miata or E36 M3. Since I only have a two-car garage, we live on a third of an acre, and the neighborhood wouldn't appreciate a race car on a trailer and a big diesel pickup sitting in the driveway, I chose the 991 Carrera S with rollbar route.

Thanks. Shop had to do some trimming in the rear to get to the shock tower mounts. They said it was a bear to get it placed just right and the carpet back in place, but the final result is great.

Really nice set up.

Are the belts lower then your shoulders by much where they are mounted on the cross bar??
