Thanks Dad. I've survived this long without your 2 cents but I appreciate your concern for my well being

I have had multiple average experiences with Porsche sales people in California. I have owned a 997 4S before my current ($150k) 991 S and I purchased both through Cartelligent as a result. Unfortunately the dealership lobby is so strong in this country that there is no way Porsche or any other car manufacturer can have any control over the dealer and the service they provide. I hope Tesla's pursuit of manufacturer owned dealerships will change this.

That's very funny! Some how this may be the only politically correct put down left, as I understand auto-correct riding the short bus is off the list.

Just to through a different line of thought into this: I call on an internet listed car, but when we showed up to look at it, it couldn't be found. As it turned out it was a bat & switch add. Is it possible that this is what OPs dealer was doing. And then here comes OP, someone that really wanted that car and was willing to deal long distance to buy that car, and the internet sales manager wasn't smart enough to just say "oh that car has been sold".
It's happening all to often now. We have it on the web site, No we don't have it now, but can we up sale you?

Mark.

I do it all the time.

The 1st time I met my salesman was on Labor day. I showed up wearing a t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops, driving my 928S 5MT.

Looks like we have closure on this with it all working out in the OP's favor:

I have had the experience many times with high ticket items and walked away. I have always been satisfied with the subsequent results. No one should plead with people who do not work for their income.
