Any recommended dash cams? Particularly one that would mount into the rear view mirror. TIA

Just ordered the Blendmount and the 15" MirrorTap. I see conflicting info around the 12" and 15" MirrorTap power cord, so I went with the 15". I will be using a 9500IX. Anyone know if the 15" is going to work well or be too long? if long is it easy to tuck away inside the cover trim? Also, does it make sense to file a relief into the trim to accommodate the cable where it exits the trim joint?

Thanks in advance. And thanks for the awesome DIY tutorial on the install. Will be doing it next week.

I am pretty sure there is room in the cover trim to tuck away the excess. Cutting out a portion the trim for the cord makes sense.

You can see Money's install with pics here. See post 172

I used the 15", which was definitely the right size for my Valentine One. The 12" would have been too short.

Just installed mine tonight, Simple. Did it without removing the mirror housing, There is a small gap between the glass and housing.

I don't know if this has been discussed in this thread already or not, but I followed the instructions to hardware my V1 and found that the 12 inch mirror tap wire was not long enough for me. I would suggest the 15 inch one. Anyway, great DIY project. Thanks.
(Sorry, I just read the post above)

Thanks 911idiot. this was a great write up. i spent about 2 hours doing this...it is hard to remove the wiring out of the housing and harder to put back in. it is a clean install.
when u order from mirrortaps ask for the small tabs.

again thanks OP!

Great write up...thank you! I have my Passport Max 360 tapped into the mirror in my SRT, and now will check the wiring for my 997.2 GTS. Much appreciated!

So I was looking at my mirror in the 997.2 GTS and I could not see where the wiring harness is to tap into. I do have the auto-dimming mirror, but cannot see where to tap into. Does anyone have pics of this installed on a 997.2 mirror? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Anyone who has done a mirror tap... How much room is there behind the plastic stalk cover (the one facing the front of the car, where the wire will come out)? I was thinking about the possibility of,putting a female rj11 jack inside the stalk, so the radar detector could be removed without leaving a dangling wire...

It is very tight. At best, you can push the wire into that little space so just the plastic male phone connector is poking out. If you leave the blendmount, you can put the plastic connector in the little blendmount "jaw" to tuck it away a little

As diablo mentioned, there is not too much room in there, but not sure I understand. If female RJ11 is hidden inside the stalk, how would you connect and disconnect the male RJ11 - cut a hole in stalk?

Yup. It would face out to windshield so without a cord plugged in would be essentially invisible.

I like it! Pretty neat idea if doable. Keep us posted!
