Default smart top for 991

i'm thinking about getting the smart top module for my car (991 obviously). from what i can tell, this product is a worthwhile non-oem upgrade. anyone here have any experience installing it? from what i can tell it looks like a pretty easy and straightforward process but would appreciate any input.

also, is there a way to keep a usb cable connected so the trim doesn't have to be removed for any updates or reprogramming? i'm thinking there might be a place to leave it hidden, but accessible.

if you google it you'll find a link to the site but essentially it automates the cab top open/close.

Sure, just leave the USB plug attached with double sided velcro tape right under the topmost (first off, last back on) piece right behind the rear seats where the windscreen comes up. Only have to remove the top long horizontal plastic bracket that way..or whatever you prefer.

Thanks! No problems here - love the smart top. After a recent extended service where they disconnected the electrical, I had to reset the rear window as it wasn't coming all the way up, but pretty sure that was Porsche electronics and not the SmartTop.

Resetting the window was simple - open window, hold button down 3 secs, close window, hold button down 3 secs..turn car off and back on. fixed.

[edit: I should also say that wasn't my solution, another kind person in another forum pointed that out to several of us a little while back and I'm grateful for the tip. I also turned off the smart top module using the turn signal stalk special input to make sure it wouldn't interfere with the Porsche window reset and turned it back on after. It's nice to be able to easily disable the unit.]

I've put two of them in two generations of 911 cabrios now, and if I ever buy another Porsche/BMW/MINI/whatever cabrio, I'll put another smart top in the car.

received my smart top module today. ended up getting it from roger at:

http://www.motivemods.com/Mods4Cars-...4c-sthbpe1.htm.

he was really helpful and easy to work with. it marked as shipped the day i placed the order and showed up 3 days later.

set up was a snap - hooked it up to my computer, updated the software, programmed my settings and that was it.

i'll try and find some time to install it this weekend. already planning to load the photos from nicoli on the ipad and take it out to the car with me.

It take about 20-30 minutes and it works great. I had a service message come up when I installed so I turned it off and took to the dealer. They reset and said they had this issues and put on a fix so it must have been a coincidence. They reset and it has been fine since.
