If someone has a way of changing this for UK cars I'd love to hear about it!

In era of simple switches that would work. But modern Porsche is so far from that now... under the buttons there are no switches, there are no separate wires. There is a circuit board with microprocessors and sensors and canbuses and all that wonderful modern stuff that makes simple modes impossibly difficult.

I like it. It freaks the wife off when the car shuts off. The first few times I told her the car broke. Now she is use to it.

My understanding is that in the US spec 991.2 (aka MY 2107 in the US market) they have changed it and by default Auto Start Stop (***) is always engaged when you first start the car - i.e. it does not remember the last setting before shut off. I will be able to confirm this as soon as I take delivery of my car, but in the meantime maybe someone in the US who has taken delivery of a 991.2 can chime in. I do know, from my test drive, that pressing the Sport or Spot+ button automatically disengages the ***...

In looking under Powertrain in the post linked below, it does default to on at start up.

I think the reason for the default position "ON" is for the fuel ratings. My 2013 would start on same the position when I parked the car.

I have not picked up my car yet but I have read the manual and I think there is a default position now.

it is totally for emissions and fuel ratings. BMW had been doing the same thing and a lot of people complained that cars were not remembering the last setting. A lot of folks took their cars back to the dealers and had them modify the coding. Then some smart folks discovered how to change the coding themselves... then with MY 2016, BMW changed the code to remember the last position as standard... at least that's how it is on my 2016 X5. I wonder if something similar will happen here..

I can confirm it is default on and does not remember your previous setting.

Mine is default off (thankfully). I had a tire fixed the other day and they turned it on (must have been intimidated by the red light when it's been bypassed), and I kept wondering why my car kept dying at stoplights! Then I finally remembered to look down at my console and found they had switched the "feature" on.

You should snag the latest code from zapta's Github repository. It can be easily hacked to remember all of the button states.

In Hong Kong, it's default is on. I need to turn it off everytime.

This nanny stuff really bothers me. I'm glad that my car defaults to off, as I already have to worry about hitting the "ok" button on the navigation as well as the "sport" button. It would be another annoyance to hit the "off" for the auto stop/start.

Where I live I need the AC on all the time so it doesn't really work well anyway.

My wife has auto start/stop on her Audi Q5, and it comes on at almost every stop. I can't even remember the last time it came on on my '13 C4S, despite the fact that I leave it enabled. So, how often does it come on for you folks? (Assuming you're not in Sport mode, don't have the air conditioner cranked up, etc.)

Quick Reply: Make auto stop/start off by default?
