Default Does dark blue metallic look purple?

I saw a boxster in the parking lot in the bright sun today that from far away looked dark blue, but upon closer inspection looked purple.

On the configuration online it's tough to tell and even pictures can be deceiving. Has anyone seen them up close in the bright sun that could tell if it has a hint of purple to it?

No, my dark blue CS2 looks dark blue in the sun. It can look almost black in the shade, but not purple.

I've seen some basalt black cars that look like a dark purple in direct sunlight. Never seen it with our dark blue cayenne tho

Is midnight blue the same blue that was available on the 964 in the 1990-92 timeframe? That did have a purplish tint from angles/lighting. Whatever that color (blue with a purplish hue) was called, it was one the most beautiful blues I have seen on a car. It was just perfect on the 964.

I would say it it a very deep blue but not purple to my eye. It is one of my favorite current colors. There are several recent pix here on various threads in different light, from direct, clear day sunny, to more diffuse thinly cloudy to more overcast.

Be safe

Yes! Before I ordered I drove to a dealership 200 miles away to specifically look at the dark blue in person. I really wanted that color but in bright sunlight and from a few feet away, it looked purple. Ordered white instead and couldn't be happier.

My car was really dirty after a 300 mile drive in the rain and I was surprised that it looked slightly purple under the fluorescent lights in the garage. There was a light brown film of dirt on the exterior and although the car didn't look that dirty the color changed noticeably after it was washed the next day. I haven't seen it look like that since, so it must have really been dirty.

Maybe you can see it slightly in the picture below before the car was washed. Compare it to the color of the car in my profile picture.

I have a DB and I couldn't be happier. The only time I see purple is when it's in the garage with some sunlight coming in through the windows. Weird though as when it's outdoors, it's a pure dark blue. In no way is it like the plasma blue color on the Subaru STi. If I could order my DB again I would.
