Default Merry Christmas…To Me!!!

Very excited to have purchased my first Porsche. It is a 2013 991S Cab. I actually purchased the car off the lot on Nov 11th and immediately put it in storage through the dealer. It was absolutely killing me not being able to have the car. I gave it to my wife last night as a Christmas present / early 40th birthday present. Even though the car is for her, we all know who it was really for and will be driving it most of the time!

Options:

Basalt Black, PDK, Sport Chrono, PASM, Power Sterring Plus, Multi-function steering wheel, 14-way power seats, Bose, Auto Dimming Mirrors, Heated/Cooled seats, heated steering wheel, Black Bi-Xenon lights w/ PDLS, smoking package.

I have learned a lot from this forum but had a few questions I hope some of the members could chime in on.

-Is there any maintenance/care that needs to be taken with the convertible top?

-I don't plan on buying winter tires as I have no intention of driving it in the snow, but with these Chicago winters, it can get really cold. Are there any issues with the standard tires (traction, ride, etc) that I need to be concerned about in the cold?

Great looking car! But, are you sure your wife won't give you divorce papers as her "gift" for buying a present for her that is really for you?

Nope, definitely not worried about that. It was funny though that she made a comment after the initial shock of seeing the car that I had to clear it with her to take the car, in case she plans on going out with it. I just chuckled. She might be more excited than me to drive the car. The high today in Chicago is 27 and she wants to put the top down and drive around the neighborhood.

I have been through a winter and a half on my original summer P-Zeros. It is not that big a deal IF you understand that summer high performance tires will ride a little harder and have less ultimate grip than they do in the summer whenever temps get below about 35 F, and if you don't use them in snow or ice conditions. That means they slip more easily in fast corners and take longer to stop in hard braking. That can translate into way longer in panic braking - the second biggest downside. The biggest is that they are scary in any snow and ice condition. Then again, since you haven't driven the car in the temps the tires love, you won't know what you are missing 'til it warms up a bit!

I guess everyone is up early Christmas morning!

Tell your wife driving with P zeros in winter is like trying to run a marathon in Jimmy Choos! You can only walk it, not run!

Congrats on the cab. I dont drive my car when its less than around 40f. My tires feel like bricks zip tied to the rims. And when I do take it out in the winter I take it slow - the tires take a while to warm up, I take it out basically to let it "stretch" once in a while.

Beautiful car! Like the manual says, those summer tires won't like anything under 50 degrees. I would run the comfort partial load of 31 front and 34 rear to soften up the ride if you must drive on them in the cold.

Sand those joints, prime, paint the walls and put down racedeck on the floors and your garage will look incredible, just like the car!

Merry Christmas!

I have always used this on the convertible top:

Wash it with normal car soap and water and apply 303 occasionally.

Another convertible top cleaner and protectant that I have used for years is the Sonax brand. The dealership will also sell this same thing in a Porsche branded label. Good stuff.

Great looking cab. Very nice gift.

For weekly/monthly, just rinse with water. No soaps. Sticky tape roller between rinses.

I like Ragg Topp's protectant and cleaner. Their parent company make the OEM coatings on our tops.

I have a similar set of his and hers. Just got my 14 C2S and my wife has a black X5 diesel.

I don't let her park in the garage next to me though.....

That is a great analogy. That is exactly how it felt driving the car home from the dealer in 10 degree weather.

I just cleared out the 3rd bay of our garage so the car is on it's own now. No chance of door dings. Just have to keep the kids away from it.
