It's available in the C4S too. I just don't want the AWD.

I hear ya.. Go for the AWD.. I thought about your statement and understand where your heart and mind are laying.. Then I thought well to get it - awd.. you can really make the AWD on the 911's give you nice oversteer and the understeer is not there at any reasonable hwy speed. NY states has winters- gives a little bad weather stability..

I want one too! At least you get a nice NA engine!

 

Good for you ISUK! Let us know the specifications as soon as you sort that out. I hope its a PTS one with a custom interior!

I have owned three longhood early 911 Targas in my lifetime, including my current 'Crystal Blue' 1970 911E Targa. So I am quite familiar with the model. Thus it pains me to hear Porsche CEO Müller, a VW guy that was appointed CEO of PAG in 2010, misspeak about the Targa. If you listen carefully starting a 3:40 on the video, you hear him say that the Targa badge 'has been appearing on the rear of the 911's for over a decade longer than even the famous Turbo badge'. Sorry Herr Müller (and everyone else at Porsche who vetted this speech) but the Targa badge was NEVER on the rear of the 911's on the early Targa models! It was always discretely on either side of the rollbar (see photos 2 & 3) and no Targa badge on the REAR (photos 4 & 5). As I recall, the first time the badge 'Targa' was put on the rear of a 911 was on the 993 model (photo 6) in MY1996, which is not that long ago! You would think someone at Porsche today would know that bit of history and pass it on to Herr Müller!

Frankly, I cringe everytime I hear Matthias Müller talk in public, or to the press, because he will always say something that he will regret. For example, you might recall the controversy he cause when he stated with certainty that the 991 gt3 would not come with PDK!

PS Per press release: "The 911 Targa 4 will have an MSRP of $101,600 while the 911 Targa 4S model will have an MSRP of $116,200. Both cars also have a destination charge of $995. Deliveries of the 911 Targa in the U.S. are scheduled to begin this summer."

Anyone know about the rear seat rake? Forward like th cab or rear like the coupe?

 

It is availavle as a C4 and a C4S.

 

For what it's worth... There's no powerkit available for the Targa 4S.

Probably because the roof takes up more space than the cab-roof and that means there's no space left for the different parts of the powerkit. (No confirmation on this... Just guessing)

Agree.....Porsche needs to drop an xtra 100hp into the entire line-up!! A supercharger system with a bump to ~ 600hp would certainly make the most of the Targa experience!!!

 

I took some snapshots from Müller's presentation video. Can you tell from them the rear seat rake vs coupe or cab?

Wow, $116,200 to start? You can get a C2S with X51 for that.

I love the car but,...........

You throw a couple of other options on there and you have a GT3

 

One that wants a Targa, doesn't want the GT3.... Different cars for different tastes besides that, you can't compare it with a C2S, because it is an AWD version, so you need to compare it with the C4S and the C4S cab....
It's about the same price as the cab, which is actually less than I expected.

Actually, it looks like the coupe seat. Can't be 100% sure from the picture. Important to me, b/c my kids fit in the back seat and will for a few more years, but can't really sit in the cabrio the way the seats are raked.
