I thankfully purchased one off lot. I had to wait a few days for the dealer to prep the car and swap on the winter wheels before I picked it up. Those 3 days were killer.
I have no idea how anyone waits months.
I year in, and I am about to crest 10k miles. I love this car.

Three Wheelin'
I put down my deposit for a GT3 in June '13, my order will lock in January and my car will be built in March.
I know I could not have waited two years, the wait is already excruciating ...

Dealer estimates are usually a bit conservative. My last car came in 6 weeks early. Just remember you are getting the car custom built to your requirements which is usually worth the wait. I special ordered all my cars and have not regretted it.

Getting mine 7 days from today hopefully! Ordered in July!! I'm sure the wait will be worth it! Getting exhaust update, winter tires and tint before I get delivery !!

I've only owned 2 of these things. I've searched far and wide for what I wanted and found them on a dealer's lot. The trick then, of course, is negotiating a reasonable deal. Waiting is hell. I'm too old for waiting now.

Burning Brakes
I spent the time reading absolutely everything available about the car. the dealer gave me the owner's book and I ordered a detailed book from Suncoast. By the time the car arrived I had a pretty good idea how to work everything. Nevertheless, there are even more goodies to discover that are not adequately detailed in the books. Looking back, the time went by quickly

The folks at Porsche are masters at increasing the desire for their vehicles with some of the additional wait. However, the clock does not start when the customer thinks that he/she has placed an order. So, Bacura's 2 year + wait after he ordered his 50th is not really accurate because the order was actually submitted several months ago. With that logic, I am ordering my 60th anniversary edition on Monday. Damn, the 10 year 4 month wait from Porsche is ridiculous. For the record, the order for my 50th was locked in the first week of November and delivery will be the end of January (3 months). Still a long time

I custom ordered my 991 also - so I can understand how hard the wait is. It'll pass by faster than you think. The really painful part is tracking that slug of a ship
I very highly doubt Porsche is somehow artificially creating additional build times. That makes no sense. My car arrived 2+ weeks early. How long your wait will be purely depends on timing, and probably which 991 variant you're ordering.
