Default 305's vs 295's Tire Size????

Why did Porsche put the beefier 305 on the C4S and 295 on the C2S? I know the Carrera 4 is slightly wider. So maybe that is why.

Same size wheels, right?

Are the fronts the same? Did not think to check when I saw the different rear tire sizes at the dealership.

Thanks.

those 305s are amazing. When I had them off yesterday to put the spacers on, I thought I was handling an F1 wheel.

Because the C4(S) is a tiny bit beefier than the C2(S) that's the only explanation I guess. BTW, if you opt for the Sport Techno wheels on the C2(S) you'll also get 305 tyres.

I think so... There's no difference in rear wheel width, they're always 11" wide, except for the Sport Techno which is 11,5". The only difference between the 2 and 4 models is the ET measurement on the rear wheels. For the 20" wheels it's ET70 for the C2(S) and ET52 for the C4(S).

I've got the carrera classic wheels, which came with 295 tires originally. I now have 305s on them. 305 on a 10.5" wide wheel is within spec.

I'd like to know what the widest size is that could fit...
...I think 325's with maybe a 11.5 -12" rim?

1. 305's fit fine on the the standard rims (11in wide), had them in the past and I intend to do it when my 295's are done.
2. 325's will fit on 11in wide rims, however I didnt do it as I didnt like the look. FYI P offered 325s on past 997 GT cars but on 12in rims.

Is there any performance difference between the 295 and 305? I mean does 10mm more width really make a noticeable change?

Reason I'm asking is I'd like to get some 19 inches on the widebody but they don't make any 305/35/19s. I'd have to go with 295/35/19.

Not for street driving with stock HP.

not for everyday driving. but I think it looks better.
the stock OEM rear size is 305/30/19s. Had them on my 08 TT.

Do the 305's on the 11" wide wheels stick out more than 295's. They will obviously fill the gap just a tad more (3mm), but do they bulge out more given how they fit on the wheel. I have 15mm spacers and everything is nice and flush. When it comes time to change, I'd consider 305 if it fits fine.

Almost the exact same thread and comments came out nearly 3 years ago. This one started over a year ago. Still running. I feel like the guy in Time Crimes watching Looper and Predestination. Round and round…. only this time without Gary Sims to second what I said way back then….

LOTS of tires will fit. Wider gives more traction but too wide and the sidewalls flex and store so much energy it makes for poor handling. Narrower is more responsive but too narrow and you lose grip and expose the rim needlessly. So there really is a very narrow optimal range which both Porsche sizes are well within. The difference between the two is a few percent, in other words nil. Porsche doesn't put the wider tires on the 4 because they need it. With a better weight and power balance, quite the opposite. But as some have noted it does look better and that really is a big point with the 4, so there you go. Its done for marketing and appearance sake.
