Quality of Burmester System

What optional acoustic panels are you referring to?
I think that the Burmester option should be looked at as a 3.5K option in that this is price difference between it and the Bose. At this delta, it is a no brainer for those who enjoy/appreciate what this system offers. My only concern is being able to replace any defective/broken speaker units in the future ( 5+ years). I do not have these same concerns for Bose.

I found this link that may be of interest to some. If my calc's are correct, the Bose is $2120 and the Burmester is $3442, so a $1322 difference.
I wonder how the Burmester would compare to aftermarket Audison/Hertz setup, which is what I've been thinking of doing?

Thanks. The figures that I quoted were from the 911-50th configurator. Your calculation of a difference of $1322 make it a very easy decision. Thanks for the link. It does prove that the replacement components are available albeit more costly than Bose. Thanks.

Somebody once said when you buy a Porsche with the Burmester system you're paying for the audiophile system and Burmester throws in the Porsche for free. ha ha! I don't agree but if you have well recorded music and the road noise is not too intrusive it truely is high end.
Funny, but not too far off. Burmester is one of the highest of the high-end home audio brands. Three of the middle of their product line power amps = approximately one base 991 Carrera.

I am sure the Burmeister sounds fantastic (and Kosmo is right the old Audi's B&O were great), but I could only affort SPASM, PDCC and PSE, and I cannot say I would be able to tell the difference between the Bose and the Burmeister with PSE blasting.

Having read the great reviews of the Burmeister system on this thread, I'm really regretting not getting one given that I'm a huge music fan. I have the Bose. It's not terrible - although the bass is indeed muddy. At least there is some bass though - from what I hear the stock audio system lacks.
Well next time around maybe I'll get the Burmeister assuming it's offered in a few years. Useful info in this thread - thank you.

I really do not understand all those that are in love with the Burmester system. It came with the 991.1 I bought a few months ago and as a HiFi lover I really was expecting much. Too much apparently, I think it sounds terrible. Bass is OK, but soundstage and voices / higher frequencies are terrible. Sometimes it sounds like there is deformation in the higher frequencies. The only way it is somewhat bearable is when I play Spotify using the equalizer option in Spotify and lowering everything 4.5k and upwards. Also tried playing CD’s to rule out it could be the quality of the media but no difference. It almost makes me wonder if there is something wrong with my system..

Second the motion. As a lifelong audio geek, I find it completely understandable when someone says the Burmester isn't good enough for their desires, or isn't as good as their other xyz full custom system. But to experience it as "terrible, deformed, unbearable", ....no way.
Here's one way to further evaluate. It should be fairly easy for you to find a Porsche neighbor with a Bose. Listen to same tunes on both. If aren't able to say your Burm is unequivocally better in all regards, then you probably have some component failure

Well, let me add my 2 cents here...
The base system is absolute garbage in every way. Bose is not good at all, but bearable. Burmester is the equivalent of a standard car stereo from most other manufacturers but, hardly hi fi. It is certainly the best of all of the audio versions Porsche offers, but at 7-8k (if I recall) it is nowhere near worth that price. The only upside is that if you paid 8k for a Burmester system, you will be able to recover some or most of it on a resale. Spend 8k on a custom system and you probably wont get much back, but for 8k you will have a significantly better system.
If you want good sound you have to go aftermarket in these cars.

I like the Burmester in my 991.2 feeding it with a good audio source (TIDAL hifi). For a cheaper price, the aftermarket setup in my BMW was way better though. I wanted to stay with OEM equipement so I don’t regret adding the Burmester to the option list.

I was already happy with the Burnmester, and now I like it even more with sound deadening in the doors. Huge improvement. My go to is Spotify on highest quality setting via Bluetooth.
