Default Black Paint Causing Issues?

Hi guys. I am considering ordering a black 991 and read in this thread that some owners have been having issues with their black paint. I didn't want to hijack CarreraPete's thread so I thought I'd start a new one. Can those who have been having issues please weigh in. Is this a pretty "common" occurrence or is this pretty much an anomaly? I know black is a difficult color to keep looking clean all the time, but what other "issues" are there with black?

Thanks,
Keith

I'm not aware of any "Issues" other than the diligence required to keep a black car looking great. It is a labor of love for sure! Clear coat scratching is the same for all cars, how much it shows up just depends on the base color.

Black is a hobby not a color. Having said that I have 3 black cars.

This is my second black Porsche (others, 2 silvers and one blue). It sits next to another black vehicle in my garage. Both are stunning vehicles and show dirt much quicker than silver. A little weekly attention (Meguiar's Quick Detail takes 20-30 minutes) limits the need for washings to every 2-3 weeks. Porsche's basic black is beautiful and not a costly option. Porsche's Basalt Black is also beautiful but is an option. I am willing to make the small extra effort for a beautiful car.

Black is the absence of color.

The new, more environmentally-friendly, water based paint is softer for all colors. They all require a bit more care and waxing. And it certainly doesn't hurt to have at least the nose and mirrors protected from flying objects. It does chip and scratch easier.

No issues from my standpoint. I would not classify myself as an obsessive car care guy either. I would rather drive than clean my car. I use Griots spray on wax while drying my car every couple weeks. My shop gave me a sample when I had the car in and it does a great job eliminating water marks while drying.

Black paint requires careful washing technique. Always use a two bucket method. Never use a car wash. Always use clean microfiber . Always make sure you use a lot of soap to clean off the dirt . Never wash in the sun or when the car is hot. Do not dust your car between washes. Use high quality wax. Invest in a porter cable or flex and buy high quality pads. Use meguiars 105 and 205 and your set. Here is my 4 year old ZR1. No swirl marks.

+++1- Having to clean a black car is like doing yoga-you have to get in a zone and block all other things out of your mind... and relax.

no problems here. Just get 3M on the hood and bumper and you should be good. If not, your car will look like mars!
