Default What would you do?

When I bought my car in April, I noticed the steering wheel was slightly misaligned. It's a little left of center. No big deal as the car's alignment is fine...it's just the steering wheel that isn't properly centered. Well, apparently "steering" issues are only covered by warranty for the first 1000 miles and I now have 3400 miles on my car. The dealership that services my car (not the same as the dealership that I bought my car from) wants to charge me $350 to align the steering wheel. I've asked the dealership that I got the car from - and who is also aware of this issue since I literally complained about it on the test drive - to pick up the tab, but haven't heard back. Not sure a centered steering wheel is worth $350 out of my own pocket, but I'm already anticipating the runaround I'm going to get from the dealer I purchased from. What would you do?

Get it done somehow. Resale will suck with the wheel misaligned.

Send your local dealer your avatar pic and tell them if they don't realign the steering wheel at no charge, you're going to put on your helmet and goggles, your leopard thong, and your red clogs and then burn their dealership down!

If it bothers you, which obviously it does, just get it done.

Any responsible Porsche dealer would not flinch in making good on making your new car right. I purchased a cpo'd car from Santa Barbara Auto group. The car was shipped to me in Florida. After a week, the battery went dead and I took it to my local dealer (Champion). Champion replaced the battery and Santa Barbara sent me a check for the $350 it cost to replace the battery.
If you can not get recourse with the dealer directly, you have to go to the district person that the dealership is in. I would call Porsche customer service and get them to contact that person.

Good luck with it.

What your dealer told you is ridiculous and wrong. Drop those guys. You should get plenty of mailers/emails from Porsche and your dealer telling you to bring your car in for a courtesy check to make sure everything is ok...that's the kind of stuff the program is designed to address.

Who is to say that the car is not out of alignment, and it's not just the steering wheel. The leather insert on the wheel indicates Top Dead Center, and if it is not TDC they should make it so.

I didn't know different warranty issues had different deadlines. Sounds like malarky to me.

This is something the selling dealer normally fixes as a "Goodwill Warranty" item. The non selling dealer really has no responsibility. By the way, "Goodwill warranty" is something the selling dealer funds from the profit on the car, nothing back from Porsche. One of the risks with buying from a dealer that isn't the one that's going to do the service. Personally I'd pay for the fix and hope the selling dealer would make a contribution.

If you do choose to pay, I would take it in for an alignment rather than just having them adjust the steering wheel...the steering wheel will get centered as part of the service. That way at least you'll be getting some service of value.

Smart alternative.

Poor treatment from both dealerships.

"What would you do?"

I would have refused to accept delivery until the steering wheel was properly aligned.

Credit where credit is due...the selling dealership stepped up and took care of it. The servicing dealership is still taking 2 friggin' days to complete the work (also had an unrelated software update), but that's a different story. I'm just happy I didn't get the runaround and that it'll all be taken care of as it should be. Thanks for the feedback, guys.

Great!

I think the threat of the "thong and the red clogs" did the trick!

No doubt. When someone in a leopard thong, red clogs and a helmet threatens anything, you tend to take it seriously...
