Default 911 50th Anniv. Ed. or GT3

I hope this is the right forum section for this question. I'm new to the whole Porsche thing. I had the fortunate opportunity to reserve an allocation for the 911-50 but also am considering the GT3 (either or). I'm planning on driving 99% on suburban roads and 1% track. But I need your opinions. I'm not crazy about any of the colors being offered for the 911-50. Would you guys/gals pick the 911-50 or GT3? And if the 911-50, then would you get: 1. Geyser grey (lighter). 2. Graphite grey (darker) or 3. Monochrome Black?
If GT3, then what color from the porsche color palate? Sapphire Blue Metallic and Rhodium silver are the new colors being offered.

Choices:

911-50 Geyser Grey

911-50 Graphite Grey

911-50 Monochrome Black

GT3 - What color would you select?

Appreciate all opinions. Thanks.

The 911-50 would be more suited for the streets but I've always liked the feedback and the mechanical superiority of a GT3, so I would take the GT3 even if the 911-50 has the X51.

I can't decide myself either so I can't help you. The early reports that Geyser Gray looks like Egg Shell than Gray and the Chris Harris review on the GT3 has me leaning heavily towards the GT3 at this point (in white)

GT3 is PDK only

911-50 is manual or PDK

Having seen the options live in Stuttgart, I think the 911 50 looks best in graphite gray. I ordered the 911 50 because I needed rear seats (kids) and wanted Burmester stereo in a daily driver. Absent the rear seats need, I would have ordered GT3 in a custom paint like Mexico Blue.

I understand that in the US the price-difference between the two cars is only $6K. That makes the choice very hard to make.
Do you have kids? GT3 is two-seater, in the 911_50 you have the backseat. (Which are small but despite of that pretty usefull)

The 911_50 is on the road a bit more comfy I think, but the GT3 gives you more thrills. For me personally, the GT3 is too boy-racerish, but I have to admit, when the price-difference was that small here in Europe I would have had a lot more doubts if I had made the right choice or not. Here it's about $30K so that makes it a little easier to choose, alltough we don't get X51 as standard on the 911_50.

About the color: the 911_50 being a "special edition" has to be one of the special colors (graphit grey or geyser grey, depending on what you like more). Plain black is not done IMHO. Don't even understand why Porsche is offering it.

The GT3 looks great in every color. If I had to made the choice I would go for Rhodium Silver, but White, and Guards Red are very nice colors on that car too.

In the end it is a choice that you will have to make and we can only give our humble opinion or personal preference. I wish you a lot of luck with this difficult decision.

It's entirely up to you. Look at them both, which one makes you weak in the knees ? Get that one.

For me personally (as you asked opinions) I don't like the look of the 50th, and I see little added value. Save your money and get a base C2 and spec that up to your liking if you need the back seats.
If you don't need back seats on the other hand, the GT3 is dropdead gorgeous and the best GT3 ever. So I'd get GT3 in silver or in white if I had that opportunity!

If color is your primary concern with the 911_50, then check with Sascha Glaeser (North American Personalization) about the option to do paint-to-sample. He told me that this isn't supported today on the 911_50, but that if there is enough demand for it, it might be before all 1963 cars are built.

Might be interesting to post this as well on GT3 forum to see differences in opinion. GT3 resale will be much better I believe, and if you get one early and don't like it I see no problem selling it as they will be limited.

That's allowed, it's a free country :-)
But to be fair, the 4.0 is an RS. So wait until the 991 GT3 RS sees the daylight. It will smack the old 4.0 around I would guess.

GT3 all the way. Just make sure to spec a seat that is more comfortable for touring, as opposed to track time.

Or wait for the Carrera GTS. If history is any indication, it will be exactly like the 50th car, but without the chrome bits, fabric upholstery, and limited color palette.

Good call. GTS also has the cab option. Wait will be 1-2 years though.

I like and ordered the 50th, but color is definitely a compromise.

To me, the choice is quite simple:

1) Need back seats? 911_50
2) Don't need back seats? The GT3 is better by miles!
3) Fussy about wanting manual? 911_50

If the price was only $6k difference here, I'd have the GT3 in a heartbeat, but alas we're being robbed - in our market the price difference is a whopping $80k (and that includes adding the X51 to the 911_50 which isn't standard for us)

So, ask yourself, if they can justify making the GT3 $80k more expensive in our market, and still sell out the first allocation, then surely it must be the better car?
