Yes I saw this from their updates / mailing list. The oled display is nice - just not sure other than skin how good is it vs 9500. 9500 works just fine.
Saw it too. About to pull the trigger on either the Bel STiR Plus or Escort 9500ci and am wondering if I should wait to see how these features spread. I've been a V1 guy for many years....
As long as a radar detector thread has been started.....
What's the consensus of the group? A good investment? I live in California. It's not quite clear to me if I can use one legally. I know they are technically legal in CA, but I have read that they will pop you for some ridiculous thing like "obstructing view" or similar BS if you mount them on the dash or windshield. If you get stopped by some jackboot, do you have to quickly unplug it and hide it?
What are the key issues I should consider? And, what brand and model do you folks that have experience recommend?
A radar detector is definitely worth it, IMO, and has saved me tickets on numerous occasions. It's possible a LEO might look unfavorably on you if you're stopped for speeding and he spots your detector but he has no legal basis for doing so; they aren't illegal.
It is illegal to mount anything on your windshield in CA except in a small square in the lower right or lower left corner. Dashboard mounts are ok. That said, the detectors in my cars are mounted high up on the windshield. FWIW, if I see I'm going to get pulled over, I grab the detector and stow it.
I have 3 V1's; one in each car. The directional arrows are the big selling point for me as are the dual (front and rear) antennas. People complain about too much falsing from X-band, but the detector can be programmed to ignore them. There are other choices though, so pick the detector with the features you like. My $.02.
Looks like a bunch of marketing fluff to me. The product may end up being good, but the videos on their YouTube channel (where you can go to "watch exciting videos of the all new PASSPORT Max!") are hilariously, embarrassingly bad. What on earth does extreme sports and "DNA" have anything to do with radar detection? They need to hire someone to bring their marketing department out of the early 80s.
Perhaps the first Rennlisters to install it can give us an evaluation.
I would prefer the 9500ci but the local recommended installer is a Nissan dealer who does knows little about Porsche electronics and body dismantling and the local Porsche dealer's service department says they will "give the installation a try".
I have a V1 too but not sure I'll buy another unless they upgrade it. They could do so much with today's technology and their arrows technology. I'm thinking that they are simply coasting on their past success. And what's up with only having an Android app for it. Its not like there isn't a market for iPhones.

Do you mount it on the glass for better range? Does it have an internal battery? Or is there a cord running to it from the lighter or other location?

Yeah, at the top of the windshield for better sightlines for both the front and rear antenna. Also for esthetics, and so it's not quite as obvious to people outside the car. No internal battery, it's a wired unit. I've hidden the wire along the top of the headliner and run it down the A pillar to the fuse box. You can't even see it. It's wired to a switched circuit so it only comes on when the ignition is on.

FWIW, the iphone app is "coming soon" according to the company......
I have an 8500ci. It works. Frankly LEOs are using old equipment around here due to budget constraints they are just getting a little more creative where they are sitting like near other K or X band sources like malls, supermarkets or drug stores with automatic doors
