Default Routine maintenance 997.1 vs 991?

I am curious to know if there are any significant differences in the recommended maintenance schedules? Anything more onerous in the new car? Any issues with access to the new and improved engine compartment?

i was looking at the book this weekend. Other than the flusing of the optional PDCC system at 60k miles, i dont think so.

Despite the impression that the oil filter may be hard to reach b/c of the interfering cooling fans and covers, I found that changing oil and filter on the 991 to be easier than on any other car I own (NSX, 650, Touareg). Reason is that the 991 fans and covers can be quickly removed w/o tools, and that there's no belly pan to deal with. Now, changing the engine air filters is another matter entirely since the rear bumper must first be removed. Dunno about the 997 since I never owned one.

Didn't the 997.1's introduce Porsche's crazy long oil & filter change intervals of 2 years and 20,000 miles ... which they subsequently halved?

997.2 oil changes intervals are 1yr or 10,000miles.

the air filters on the 997 is a simple 10min DIY. its right in front of you.
the 991 on the other hand is a PITA. I realize that the book says replace every 30k miles, but many of us drive in "dirty" areas.

Hey,

I just saw this video on youtube - about replacing the air filters on 991. This is crazy, and it boggles my mind on how unnecessary complex this process is for 991.

Thanks for starting this thread, or I would never have know about this "feature" in 991s

Once every 20k miles, it could take you 60-90 minutes to remove the 13 fasteners, pull the end cap, replace the filters and the end cap. Everything else for normal maintenance requires pretty much the same time as on the prior model.

Compare this to a classic air cooled car (before hydraulic lifters), where you adjusted valves every 3500 miles when you changed oil (if you wanted them quiet, or were ready to quash weeping valve cover gaskets once and for all for a while). That was "involvement".

I wonder if that car got put back together with the same number of screws and fasteners that it had before disassembly.

Ha!
thats prob w/ the owner of that car is thinking.

Actually that video w/ more encompassing than a simple air filter change.

A filter change requires the removal of the rear wheels and bumper and not the fans, etc.

still youre looking about about 2 hrs.
