Well, I'm back in the states after my delivery trip! I'm still writing up some details in a blog, but overall the trip was fantastic, fast, and fun. Spent some time driving north along the Burgenstraße to Rothenburg ob der Tauber, south to Baden-Baden and then along the Schwarzwaldhochstaße, and then up north a bit to Heidelberg. We were based in Stuttgart for the time with the car (bookended by time in Munich for flights in/out).

The delivery process itself was 6 hours of pure Porsche fanboy joy.

Awesome! Can't wait to hear more. My trip is going well. Baden Baden area was one of my favorites so far. #2 is around Interlaken, Switzerland. I will have to reroute my way through the bigger Alpine Passes because they are still closed with snow! Updating pictures and videos. Hope you didn't meet any police officers like I did on my first full day with the car

The biggest downer, when you do a ED and have that much fun, is having the car in the States and trying to drive it the same way you did in Europe.

UPDATE! My car was offloaded from the Paradise Ace in Davisville on 6/14! And here the whole time I didn't think it was even on a boat yet... The latest my saleperson had for me was still "on it's way to Emden". So naturally I was freaking out a little bit - thinking it doesn't take three weeks to get to Emden From Zuffenhausen .

Hopefully just another week and it'll be here! With the great driving weather we had here on Saturday I was really missing my new car.

Question, when you do an ED, do Porsche still cover the cost and risk and details of shipping to the States?

Our local dealership knew very little about the ED options and also made the prospect of getting the car in country following an ED an expensive and difficult affair (which they implied would be my problem/responsibility).

But after reading this thread, I really wish I'd gone for it!

Yes, they insure the car for the return trip and handle all of the shipping arrangements. All I did was drop the car off back at the factory, sign a form, and hand over a key! They do the rest.

Great story, wish I had done ED but my wife was not up for it this time. When you pick her state side, we should set up a meet and take the 991s for a spin...

Just to add a final chapter to this thread, I picked up my car on June 26th (exactly one month to the day of dropping it back off at the factory) and have been enjoying having it back. If anyone is interested, I wrote up all of my ordering and euro delivery experiences on my own personal blog (no ads, I hope I don't offend anyone with blog spam) - http://stealthboy.com/porsche.php .

It's pretty cool to finally have it home! Thanks so much to everyone here for the great information as I was preparing for my trip.

Funny, when I saw the picture above of the 2 cars in the garage, I thought the car on the left was a PANAMERA !! Can you say BIG ?!!
