I suppose at the end of the day we're all just doing our jobs...
"...we're all doing our jobs ..." Wow, in this day and age that's a pretty optimistic outlook on your part!

I don't agree; law enforcement has greatly lowered their standards for recruiting purposes and it shows. Giving someone a summons for exceeding the limit by 4-MPH is nothing more than stupidity. Back in the day a cop would have been reprimanded for such idiocy, as it could easily be construed as harassment to a citizen. This "newer breed" doesn't have enough sense to realize who is actually paying their salaries.

Man I would be furious if I was pulled over for 4 miles above speed limit. When you go to court do you plead not guilty or what?

Used my defensive driving for the year already, so this one is going to be harder. Time to pop for the Escort install or a V1, I guess. In the meantime I'm going to have to get in the habit of using the cruise control even in the city!
you know that you can take the defensive driving class unlimited times IF they elect it for you, can only take it once if YOU elect it.

go to court, ask to take it to withhold judication.. they will elect it and done..

most counties just want the money and will withhold judication just by asking as long as you didn't like murder someone or go 50 over.

most lawyers wont tell you this either, thats all they do when they go in for a minor ticket, they walk up to judge before... ask to withhold judication and just pay the fine and pocket the rest.

Wow, you guys drive in a tough jurisdiction. My Sheriffs Office patrols 70 miles of interstate and my guys don't generally shut down anyone less than 10 mph over unless there is a second contributing factor (swerving, too close, etc.) They like to stop ME once in awhile cause I'm the boss AND I have a 991.

Carrerapete : I agree with you, but can we really hold the individuals responsible for the lowered standards or lack of training. Shouldn't that responsibility fall on the department and its enforcing adequate standards?

ArashApollo: It was comical at the time because I knew it wouldn't go anywhere in Fl Court. Pleaded not guilty and sent lawyer to court. $78 for the inconvenience. No ticket, no points and no insurance hike...

One officer had the radar gun (behind some shrubs) and the other two officers were simply flagging people down on his instructions.
I laughed out loud when he issued me the ticket, and I think even he realized the absurdity after the fact.

1) Slow down and drive 5 mph under the speed limit where you were ticketed
2) Always fight the ticket yourself or use an atty. Make them go to court. The odds are very good your ticket gets dismissed. Only 2% of speeding tickets are contested in court. Imagine if that was more ... the court system would implode
3) NEVER take the driver training option or any other option that keeps you out of court. By paying the fine and using this option you are admitting guilt. Save it for when you really need it. again see 2 above.
4) This 2nd time you were pulled over the officer knew you were pulled over 3 months ago and you admitted guilt by taking driver training. So you get another ticket for being a repeat offender.
5) it's all about the money and not safety. Once you know the game. Use the rules to your advantage. Rule #1 ... Never admit guilt.

Here in out of control California speeding tickets are $500+ and cops are everywhere. If you take traffic school, but get another ticket within 18 months both tickets go on your record. I've learned to set cruise control at or just above the speed limit and let some other sucker pay the cops pensions. Tickets have become an expensive tax on the stupid here.

I would totally sign up for that if it was available here. THat's a hell of a deal.

Thanks...getting booked for 4 mph over is just absurd. THAT should be illegal.

When I know that I am in a speed sensitive area, I set the speed limit alarm a couple miles over the speed limit. It reminds you to slow down when it alarms. Once when I got pulled over and told I was 12 miles over the 35 limit, I kindly showed the officer my speed alarm was set on 37, he said "oh ok, watch you speed and have a nice day", no ticket or warning.

It's just a dirty shakedown. I'd understand having all these cops if they were out actually stopping violent crime or human trafficking or something, but when they're just sitting around (often at the bottom of 30 mph hills) writing tickets to pay their own salaries and fatten city/county/state coffers, it's just disgusting. Van full of illegals driving by - no problem; You're 2 mph over in a 35... Hey, roller time! And apparently it's not an issue if the cops lie to you and tell you they got you at a speed you weren't going - and then let you go when you throw the lie back in their face. It clearly won't stop them doing it to the next person though.

Public safety & 'protect and serve' my a**. The majority of the traffic enforcement they do is so far from any useful function it makes me want to vomit.

'Excessive Speeding', defined by the Motor Vehicle Act as driving at speeds of 40 km/h OVER the speed limit, will result in the immediate IMPOUNDMENT of the vehicle you are driving! Then, if you have defaulted on your car loan, it will be indeed REPOSSESSED by a bank Repo agent... or, if you are considered armed & dangerous, by Dog!

Do you mind sharing what setting you use on your V1? I've had one for years but only install it for road trips down to LA primarily for entertainment and to keep me awake. I've been amazed how well it works in some situations, but also have driven right by police cars without any warning. Combined with false readings I didn't even use it for a quick trip to Sacramento last week. Wondering what settings you use for driving around N. California.

I disabled K and X on mine so I don't get any false alarm.
